The guy has a good voice and some talent. The song itself is too repetitive.

I wouldn't call the riff a rip off. There are a few notes with similar intervals however, which probably was caught by your Oldfield-sensitive ears. Below very simplified notation with TB transposed:

Wow, I had never seen that video before. It's pretty impressive, and no, I've seen nothing of Mike Oldfield in it.

Hmmm.  I can't really tell when the guy's actually singing but at the beginning when it's just the music, it does sound slightly Tubular Bells-esque.  I wouldn't say it's a rip off by any means though cause to me it's only vaguely similar.

Oh, c'mon, guys - especially Jameson. You can't be such Oldfield fanatics/maniacs [BTW, do you remember that old topic - "Symptoms of Mike Oldfield fanatics" ? :)] that you're hearing TB everywhere you hear a tinkling piano. If this sounds like TB, then this also does. [Sorry, I couldn't find Simonetti's original on YouTube. :)]  And this also does. :) No wonder that the most recent comment on this latter one quotes The Exorcist. Now who's first one to have ripped TB off?? :D

EDIT: It looks like Simonetti's original IS on YouTube - you can hear a tiny bit of it starting from 2:00 in this one...

Well I have Chocolate Rain in my faves on You Tube and I have listened to it a few times and can't hear the similarity but maybe I'm a bit cloth eared. I just watched one of the many videos where they compare Pachabells CANON in D with many modern songs and I thought they were pushing it a little there. We all know that practically everything is a rehash of that which went before and I'm sure TB was ripped from something else too. I heard some Debussy for the first time on a You Tube video the other day, how lovely it was. (Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun) by Claude Debussy.

I have watched that video maybe a total of 4 times now, and I really still cant understand what It's about, (something about black opression or something?) The backing track is terrible, and his voice is horrendous.. in my opinion.

I did hear a similarity, but maybe Ugo has a point - maybe just about any short repeated piano part (especially at the start of a song) would remind us of Tubular Bells! :p

But the cover of TB sounds more like this one:

I am looking for the creator of this version by the way.
