Hello! This is my first post here. Upon listening to Hergest Ridge (my favorite), an age old question re-surfaced and perhaps someone out there can help me.
On the first track, PART 1 there are 2 Oboe players; Lindsay Cooper and June Whiting. Does anyone know who plays the first solo and who plays the second solo (one follows the other).
Thank you very much. It's a pleasure to have found this Forum

Hi frhead, welcome! I don't know the answer to that one, but the oboe(s) were the "hit" of my fav. album! The melody of that oboe has both haunted me and blessed my existance on this Earth at the same time! Someone here will find your answer, gauranteed! Meanwhile, it's great to meet another HR fanatic. Hello again. I did look at two websites and both the names you mentioned are credited. As to who/which did what? no mention. Perhaps more will surface with this thread.

one of the most beautiful of all MO's tunes. I wonder though, a question to FrHead ... why does it matter who plays which bit?  Do you prefer one part to the other?

From what I know Lindsay Cooper plays Oboe on Mike Oldfield´s Single and is featured on a similar tune on Hergest Ridge.

Maybe Lindsay will know a bit more.

She plays on the second Comus album ("To Keep From Crying").

Karl Jenkins is an oboeist too, and he got some really wild noises of that otherwise un-rocking instrument.

Blasphemy!

I was convinced of the oboe's rock 'n' roll powa after hearing Penderecki's Capriccio.

That was neat! Penderecki is propably something for me.
How can one know what classical music is worth listening to when there are no cool band names and groovy sleeves to give you a hint?
