Thanks for that!

Funny how 50% of the interview is the old man whining about electronically sequenced music, judging by some of the last few albums

My theory is that his son made the last albums and he put 'Mike' on it,
or he has some sort of Benjamin Button condition.

There's no way I can stay out of this one. "Some idiot accused me of jumping on the World Music bandwagon,"
Would that idiot have the initials PG? On Ommadawn MO created an early world music album. The same year, if I'm right about who said that, did his last album with a certain Supergroup. This whole article is like a paradox, the chicken and the egg. Mike jumped on the mechanized bandwagon long ago(look at the photo on this site of my beloved Oberheim DX drum machine-not actually my property but I loved it). Pioneered the use of a lot of "stuff", perhaps in a boring way- but did. Others copied Mike's computerizations. It's a freekin' mystery. But thanks for that eye-opening article. Everyone in the music biz has a story. The question is: how much of it is lies? A lot of it is the correct answer. A lot of it.

Yep, thanks milamber for digging that article up! Do you know which paper the scan was from or the publication date, we couldn't pick those out in the scan?

Hey Matt.
The paper was "The Age".
Do not know date , but it was one week (exactly) prior to the Aussie release Hope this helps.
Now i am trying to find an old Oz TB2 interview i have somewhere. Once found where is the best place to post.
Cheers.

Ta. Guess we can assume about 7th June 1990 then. I have had a quick search and can't see any indication the Oz Amarok release was later than elsewhere?

Any other articles please either E-mail to contact@tubular.net or add them to the "sticky" topic requesting articles at the top of the General forums here. All new articles (i.e. ones not already in the articles database) most welcome!

Album release and tent protest were both in June 1990.
Article says "Mike Oldfield spent three weeks in a tent outside his Bedfordshire mansion a few months ago" - so publication date would be more like August or September 1990.

CORRECTION: It references the Milli Vanilli scandal which was confessed on November 12, 1990 (according to Wikipedia).

Thanks for the detective work Airborne.
We only ever bought the Age on Saturdays so you should be able to pinpoint exact date from the MV scandal.
Btw its no suprise to me that the so called record store back then would take ages to get something in only to tell you,it's "fresh" out this week mate.

I doubt it, doesn't sound like his style. Most likely it was a journalist.
