This one should be really easy!

Can you identify this and what is the connection with M.O.?   ;)

Hi Bradnorman

That looks like it could be Kington, Herefordshire...not far from Hergest Ridge...and I'm guessing it's the Barclays Bank ( where Mike had an account when he lived there )...I can't remember where I read this, it may have been Changeling or I could have imagined it!

Shame on me!
If it is this Bank, I was in it early September when I was in Kington!

:/

Didn't Mike live in a small appartment above a record store in 1972-73 or have I dreamt this?

We don't know everything - at least you've got another place to visit next time you're in England on your MO-boosted tours ;)

Hi all.  Thanks for your responses.

Well done bee!!!

It is of course Barclays Bank in Kington where Mike opened an account after he moved to the Beacon, and as referred to in “Changeling”. I took the photograph in February this year, and was pleased to see it was still there, although I reckon there should be one of those blue plaques on the wall, you know like the house in London where Jimi Hendrix lived (and Handel I think). There’s certainly very little else in Kington to remember Mike by! I think Ellie Goulding gets a mention somewhere because she went to school there, but that’s because it’s recent I suppose.

Bad luck janouch, you’ll have to re-visit it next time you’re over!

I’m not sure about the apartment over the record store larstangmark, but would be interested to no more about that. Presumably that was the one in Tottenham where he recorded the TB demos?  :)

He lived in an apartment when he wrote TB. He said that the music reflected life in the city (as opposed to life in the countryside with HR).
That part about a record store could be totally made up...by me! haha...I don't know. I haven't read changeling yet.

Do you have a picture of the Pimlico apartment as well?

Hi larstangmark

"Changeling" isn't the easiest book to read, but it's well worth it. :)

It isn't? in what way? I thought the book was rather lucid as a matter-of-fact. I would recommend the book to everyone. I really loved it.

Yes you're quite right! I've read it several times now, and it's a compelling book. I should have been more specific though. I mean't that I found some of the parts about his childhood and adolescence were quite upsetting and painful to read. Perhaps others can identify with that too - I don't know. I  respect him for being so frank and open about those aspects of his life. I also think that writing (i.e. words not music of course) doesn't come that easily to Mike, and I admire him for not having the book ghost written.

Ericmixes - amusingly, I first read your name as 'equinoxes' - this thread about where Mike does his banking reminds me of the funny Monty Python sketch about where movie stars buy fish. The answer to most of them was "Macfisheries". I wonder if that's where Mike bought his fish too?  :D  (I guess in the Bahamas you can catch your own!;)
