These are my own renderings of the tubular bell.
(click on the previews for a high-resolution version)

The bell was modelled in Blender and rendered in Indigo.
The skybox with the ocean was rendered in Terragen.
The Machu Picchu QTVR panorama was taken from the internet.
Postprocessing done in Photoshop.

(EDIT: I added a new rendering with a different background.)

Very well done. The shape of the bell it's more difficult to reproduce than it seems.

That's true!

I started with a 3D curve which I beveled with a circle to create the basic pipe shape. Then I applied additional boolean operations to it to cut both ends off precisely and to make the pipe hollow.

Hum... I don't like boolean operations much, they almost always break the homogeneity of the mesh, making it more difficult to work on it later, and don't always work as expected.

If you accept my humble opinion, and at the risk of sounding pedant or too fussy :/ , I would have beveled the curve with two circles (inside the same object, like a 2D ring) to make it hollow, covered both ends (not the central hole, of course) with new faces (the "Skin faces/edge-loops" option is very fast and efficient in Blender), and then rotated both ends. I think this way the mesh would be cleaner, and ready to work on details (maybe a very tiny bevel at the corners?), deformations or animation.

But your bell is really perfect as it is :) .

Thank you for your ideas, Trinidad.
I'm aware of the possibility of using 2 circles instead of one.
The idea of rotating both ends is interesting :)
One of the reasons why I used booleans was to try them out and generally to experiment and play around with Blender's tools. Originally I didn't even intend to render anything but I was so happy with the result that I actually continued and made a full rendering with the background etc. ;)

I may get to remodelling the bell one day "the cleaner way" and maybe even remove the sharp edges at the ends which proved to be a difficult task to do with the current model.

Hi!
Wonderful work! I tried this once but it was really hard. It would be really cool to see some more renderings with other backgrounds if it is possible?

Thanks!
I've just added a new rendering with a different background at the top of this thread.  :)

Very Nice again! Now I know where to turn when I need a custom Tubular Bells rendering!

I am currently working on these covers for "Mike Oldfield QUADs"... when I get any free time...

Got to topic here

Maybe we could collaborate sometime in the future?

Well Done!!!

By far, the closest custom tubular bell to the original I've seen. Could we have high res, front and back grey/crystal-like versions of this pic as appeared in TB3?

Very cool indeed. I have a motorcycle which is currently in dispute with WAMU  since it's not the bike I ordered, but thats another story. I had the idea to maybe print out paper images of Tubular bells, make cut-outs, spray paint them silver on the sides of the gas tank. Problem one: The shadows and the shiny parts would be absent, it would just be 1 shade of silver. Problem 2: I live in Texas and no one here I've known since I was at Southwest Texas University in the '80s would know what the heck it is, let alone who MO is now. It's all rap and tejano here in the 21st century. They would prob. think it's a picture of an exhaust pipe!!
Point being: I miss the interaction with people who knew Mike's music. It was fun for a few years, 1980-1990. But....this is the US, oh well. I've got you guys tho. I hope. Don't I?? Jimbo sheds a tear.....There just is no culture here. Well there is, just not any that hold my interest.

The top image is stunning. They should have used it for TB2003  Well done.

I use CAD a lot but have struggled with 3D over the years (AutoCAD/3DStudio/Sketch-Up etc.). I even had a go at a programme called Lightwave (which was used for Babylon 5), many years ago, but just couldn't crack it at all.

What is this Blender programme you are using Dusan? Is it easy to learn?
