I was listening to "Magic Touch" today (no, don't ask me why); and I noticed for the first time certain electronic phrases right at the end that seemed to be direct echoes of "Crises". Could Mike be trying to tell us that the Magic Touch will eventually wear off?  :O

How do you mean?
Right at the end I just hear four repeated chords and the "it's magic, it's magic.." vocal line.
But I just notice that there's a reggae type rhythm guitar playing through the whole song. This one remind me of the "take two" demo from the FMO sessions.

They start at 4'03" - little synthesizer phrases.

You mean those last 5 ascending notes right at the end of the song? Makes me think more of the opening to Wind Chimes pt2.
Or what part of Crises are you thinking of? The synth thing at the beginning?

You had me listening to Crises again. Great track!

Yes! So what do you think? Deliberately allusive, or did Mike just like the sounds?

Bah, nothing to do with it... it's just a couple of notes on a string-type synth, but melodically has nothing to do with it. I reckon Mike doesn't intend to create any link with 'Crises' on that one.

Well, I'm not the only one to notice the resemblance. The question remains: why is it there?

Exactly. You can't put it more concisely than that!

I don't think it's more than just a detail at the end of the song that happens to have some resemblance to the 'Crises' opening, but again too far in my own opinion to think there's any kind of link.

There's as well a synth in the fast flute part of 'The Wind Chimes' that sounds exactly the same as some synth chords at the fast section just before the "Crises, Crises" part.

Do you spot that one??

Not yet, but I'll look out for it. Of course, it's been remarked on before how there are all sorts of echoes of MO works throughout his albums. For example there's a melody in "Sunlight Shining Through Cloud" that seems to quote a melody in TB2.
