I quite like Mistake. I first heard it on "The Complete" in 1985. I wonder if it ever charted? I was old enough to be aware of pop music at the time, but I never heard it on the radio or anything. Does anyone else like Mistake?

Me!
A smart but short great tune by Mike.

Me too! :)

"It was a mis-take... under the weather..."

Great vocals from Maggie, and, once in a while, also great vocals from the man himself. :)

P.S.: On the Italian edition of the 45rpm, which I have, on side A of the actual record [not on the sleeve!] Mike's surname is spelled OLFIELD! :D

I like it too, especially the guitar solo.
BTW, what do the lyrics mean? AFAIK, "under the weather" has more than one meaning.

At this time, it makes me think of a man in the rain.

So didn't Maggie put on a mackintosh? :)

I had the opportunity to see Mistake live once when a Hungarian Oldfield-tribute band, My Goldfield played it in 2002 along with Moonlight Shadow, To France, Innocent, Shadow on the Wall, Man in the Rain and some other similar famous songs by other artists (e.g. Money for Nothing).

Glad to see others liked this single too. Mistake and Crime of Passion never seem to get much of a mention yet they are both great tunes. My memories a bit hazy but i recall Crime of Passion being voted Radio Ones new release of the week. I also remember seeing the video only once on Saturday Superstore (or one of those shows!!;). Anyone else remember it, Mike and Barry Palmer were toys in a bedroom, i think!!!! sorry, went off track from Mistake there. Never liked the Mistake cover though. Is it Mikes mouth?

Mistake is okay but I prefer Waldberg (The Peak) which is the B-side.

Bach famously encoded his name into one of his pieces (by using the keys B Flat A C and B - which for some odd reason is rendered H in German), and it's amusing to speculate that Mike did the same with the title of this single. We have MI sta KE. Well, Mike is a star after all! My birthname is David... perhaps I should write a poem called "Dative"
