Hi Everyone,

I'm new on this website I've just discovered a few days ago.
Please forgive me if my english isn't very good, but I'm french and haven't practice for a long time (about 3 years...)

I love Mike's music ! My favorites pieces are Tubular Bells, Hergest Ridge, Ommadawn, Incantation and Amarok).

The reason why I decided to post this topic is to introduce you a musician I discovered recently. This man is very impressive. He's a Spanish multi-instrumentalist who plays drums, guitar, mandolin, flute, bagpipe, keyboard, etc.

He is probably the only one who can pretend to have a sound so close from Mike's one !
His name is Miguel Engel de la Llave Jimenez (known as Miguel Engel Arcengelus).

The link is :

Look, listen and tell me what you think !

For my part, I'm absolutely Fan !
Enjoy.

Laurent

I effectively didn't noticed that Miguel Engel could seem like Michelangelo ! What a very strange likeness...

About Drums, Even Mike is using Electronic Beat Boxes, or he's working with famous drummers (for example, like Simon Philips).

I didn't know Jean Marc Boel. I've just listen a few minutes to his album "Café - Album 2006". It seems very quiet, very peaceful !

Sorry English friends no translation possible , to much difficult .

.. Please , don't speak about me , i'm not even à copy of the guys i was talking above , i'm nothing ! But if you drop by my page you'll find some other guys which love and play like Mike , Trustno1 and Squonk66 .

Hi Yanouch65

Yes, that's true but I didn't know there would be so much French peoples on Tubular.net website.

About Miguel Engel, does someone know anything else ?
Except his MySpace Page and his two videos that can be found on YouTube, is there other musical compositions on the web for this guy ?
He seems to be Spanish. Is he a professionnal musician, or just a Fan who try to play music as Mike ?

Welcome, Laurent. :)

Yes, I'm also a fan of his works. As I see, he uses the same important folk elements in his music that I feel essential and very core to Mike's music. I think there are three professional artists that gets really very close to Mike's style, and Engel is one of them (other two being Michal Wojtas aka. 'Amarok' and 'Shaped Signs' ). I feel all three of them are quite underrated, all in all.

His artist name is (or maybe was, before 'Arcengelus' ) 'Engel' and he released an album in 2002, also called 'Engel'. It's very good, worth checking it out, you can buy it for example at Musea Records. Though, I feel he's even improved since then, especially his production skills, lately.

He even popped up here on tubular.net.

Some more links with Engel-stuff:
An inactive Spanish blog about Engel, with links to music from his first album
His SoundClick page
His Myspace page
Unfortunately the site with the fantastic 18-minute-track, 'El vuelo del alma' is not online anymore.

Besides, he collaborated on Roger Subirana's album Lost Words.

Anyway, he plans to release a new album soon. :)
