Some people here in the forum were kind enough to contribute pictures of some of Mikes previous guitars to the instrument list.

I am now a very vivid shade of green.By the avatar you have one of the acoustics.More envious of the SG though.Just about all my favourite Oldfield solo's were played on it.
As you can tell i am new to this forum but i didn't realise some of you had actually bought some of the guitars.Makes my old strat look very ordinary.Just to make it worse is iy THE SG (ie the live at Montreux one)? :(  :D

There are several members of this forum who bought Mike's guitars in 2006 and 2007.

manintherain, fragile, yanouch65, ray, Taurus Outcast are some of the lucky guys.......

I know i know . just read my last message,it should have read that i've been a guitarist for 20 years, not 30.It's a combination of not having access to a PC and ignorance.I've known about the site for years and checked it out every now and then but the What Is Mike Playing question was really starting to bug me.Hence why i asked you good people.Lo and behold some of you guys have some of the guitars. :)

Apparently (according to the man himself)the original Bolan Tele didn't play in tune anymore.Surely he could simply change the saddles. The intonation is fixable on all but the most knackered of guitars.
As for the Squire it was deemed 'adequate' but i would have thought a Fender would be the obviuos choice to replace it.But as you say we musn't use the W word.

The Telecaster probably had worn fret board as well as worn frets as it was played alot before mike got it.  Mike and his dad fitted an extra pickup (rendering it worthless as far a the general public (ie non fan Guitar collector) would be concerned) it may even have been re-fretted  - which you can only probably do one or at most twice without damage.

Good point about the fingerboard. And as for the avatar.....what can i say?I've seen no end of pics of this one but nice to know a player has bought it and it will continue to be played.Better that than hanging in a Hard Rock Cafe somewhere gathering dust :)

i've been a guitarist for 20 years,

Hey - Caveperson,  so what is your favorite bit to play.... mine is currently the fast twiddly bit from incantations dum-dum, dum-dum, dum-dum, dum duddle duddle dum, dum-dum  etc.,

very different from Korgscrew's diddley diddley diddley bit... .

Oh and moonlight shadow, on horse back, argiers, take four,

and in the dark before going to bed (and with eyes closed) - the intro to Ommadawn.

- Voyager, lots from Guitars (on the Martin), FMO, lots of bits from tub ii - the PRS bits mostly!, the end of Tub 1, the beginning of Tub 1?  Silent Night, and a few hundred more snippets.

Come on - which bits do you like playing?

:O   Ray

I had to think about it....but.....Taurus 1 is nice to play as is Taurus II (love the power chords...Taurus 3 forget-much too fast).I'm not a fast player but i love the solo from the exposed vesion of TB part 2.Still find it difficult though. The solo at the end of Ommadwn took a lot of squinting at tab to suss but it is surprising playeble (for a Mike solo). And i love to play along with the Complete version of Platinum. To ne fair though i prefer to listen to it rather than try to play it.My stock in trade is bluesier and Mike's playing is fairly technical. However i am still swearing vigorously at myself trying to suss Irelands Eye.
By the way there's nothing wrong with playing Ommadawn in the dark.Man.... :)

I have sent an email to Chandler to know whether they have Mike's instruments left:

The seller said: We have the zemaitis bass that was built for mike by tont zemaitis
in the 70s, its the first one he ever built and has an engraved plaque on it  with the letters mgo
you can see this instrument on the back of ommadawn and we are asking 10,000 pounds for it.
a zemaitis bass like this without being mikes would be worth 8000.

Therefore, the Mandolin is sold....

I think some one bought it as it's gone now.  I didn't realise it was the Acoustic bass from Ommadawn!!
