Yup, he knew his stuff. There were a couple I stumbled on and I agree with Matt, I wouldn't have got them anywhere near as quick!

I also got 19/19, shouting most of the answers half way through the question.

Honestly, I thought the questions would be a bit harder. I mean - "Name the 2nd album"? "Which film famously used an extract Tubular Bells"?

Surely they could have snuck in "Which album featured Morse Code", or "name the composer Mike collaborated with on MoTS", something to dig a little deeper into his work.

But, as previous poster said, it would be much harder under the spotlight in a TV studio, and no doubt full marks will impress the viewers. So good luck to the man.

The answer is 42 - but what is the question?

CR, the term "sitting on his hands" usually refers to someone failing to act. On the contrary, untruth I think has twice been a Mastermind contender and therefore presumably fairly well placed to comment here.....

Please be more polite.

Hi Matt
If you  choose to misquote me, that is your perogative as an Admin.
The phrase I chose refers to someone being mildly annoyed without specifying themselves to be so.

Your reference to "Mastermind contender...fairly well placed" is inherantly redundant from the outset-even ironically.

Polite? Do you not consider somebody's registering on this site and using their first post as a veiled semi-rant to be the very height of rudeness?

Gavin won, so All's Well n' all that baloney...
 ;)

I missed it!  But thankfully I found it on BBC i-Player.  Phew!

I only got 17 out of 19 (if you allow for me pronouncing Anita's surname and Exegesis wrongly).  And the dude was much faster than me.  But, hey, he was also much geekier than me!   ;)

He went on to win though - fair play to him.

If you're outside the UK,no BBC iPlayer for TV shows (I hate that)!

Maybe someone can get just the MO part and upload it somewhere.

Got them all except the name of the lion. Fair play to him, he answered them quickly under pressure!

Guess there is no irony whatsoever in that Gavin being told the actress-subject of his question was Bolton-born elected to proffer Birmingham-born Julie Walters as his answer.
Guess it was the position he was in.You know, not knowing a Bolton from a Birmingham accent.

Shame

Personaly, I found that the winner of the show's answere's were mumbled almost to the point of incoherency, they were almost just sound's that resembled the correct answere.
Most annoyingly during the general knowledge section, it seemed he mumbled responses that sounded right and he won.

Same here. I found he answered a bit slowly in some cases, but I guess Mastermind is not generally an interrupt the question kind of programme.

It's just that if you're answering questions about Mike Oldfield and a question starts "Which ABBA song..." why would you not just say Arrival immediately?

Still, that doesn't take away from the fact that he got them all and dominated the episode.

Yes, I noticed that, like he played it fast and mumbled - to win. It worked very well

I actually want to see this to see if I can answer many of the questions, does anyone know where I can find it? All I can find on iPlayer is an interview with the guy and no Mike content </3

Someone finding and deciding to upload Mike's This Morning... from 1992, in just the last couple of days, should give us hope that of umpteen home recordings that will have been made and kept of this, one will eventually resurface.  Prior to joining here, this was one occasion where I did catch the news ahead of an event; I just totally forgot about it on the day and couldn't get the iPlayer to work in the library that week.

I won't go down the route again, but suffice to say I had every confidence in how Gavin Fuller would acquit himself, remembering his run in 1993.  It's only in the last few days that I've realised he was up against an Egghead!  Again, well done him. :)
