I must say... I think it is seriously horrible. That grotesque stare, with those fearsome eyes.... coupled with the idea that this image can only be viewed through a protective mesh screen ....

What is he trying to say? Nothing in this image matches with any experience I've ever had with any of his music.

He's saying ' I'm over 50 and uglier than I once was, I want my image to be remebered in the form of my youth. Therefore I have covered my picture in darkness and locked it behind a wire mesh cage so that this can be achieved  ;)

According to zm.nu, the first single from the album will be 'Surfing'.

And too according to the most famous musical radio in Spain, "Los 40 Principales"...

I think the colour is the worst aspect of it.

Anyone else think this cover looks Tolkien-related?

I think we now know who the watcher in the tower is. It is Sauron.

Bleh, that must be Mike's worst cover so far.

Yeah he does look positively demonic and really quite disturbing. Some things he does are really beyond understanding.

I don't think that this is the final design of the cover. Probably some kind of prototype/placeholder. Neither Mike's site nor Longdrop's site show this design, the color + font look quite cheap and the ring/Big O doesn't fit the whole image.

So let's hope that Mike reveals something different in the next days.

Don't forget the darker moodier side of the album, perhaps this refers to that.

I like the cover!!!  It is different... and it is far better than some of the other covers through out his career!!  Complete, Collection, BOTB, TL, Discovery, HR... those covers sucked IMHO.

And the "O"  DUH EVERYONE... stands for "OLDFIELD"... SHAZAMMM SURPRISE... DUH!!!!  Sometimes artists do things like that even when their name is written out infront.  He does look a bit demonic and scary, but he is going for something alittle more moody with this double disc.  So, just go with it and STOP YOUR BITCHING!!!

JESUS PEOPLE... Find something else to do with your time than bitch about Mike Oldfield!!!

Leave the ring. Replace the background image with one of Gandalf confronting a balrog with his glowing staff. Light vs shade.

We can even add these "Lord of the Rings" -related songs (at least in title! ) to the album:

"Crime of Passion" (death of Deagol)
"Crystal Gazing"
"Far Country" (Into the West)
"Outcast" (Balrog battle)
"The Watchful Eye"
"Caveman" (A Wose situation)
"Great Plain"
"On Horseback"

Hmmm well what can I add to all of this Mike take that fishnet stocking off yer head whilst getting your piccy took.

On a serious note it has a similar feel to Discovery as someone has already said. That also has an effect akin to a scratchy mesh like foreground It's more pleasing there I like the  Discovery cover a lot.

He does look menacing in this new pic not entirely pleasant.
The title for me atleast would suggest a better image an opportunity wasted

When I purchase this I won't leave it lying around at nigh far too scary !! :O  :(

I like it better now that I could see it in better resolution. I just wish that horrible typography wasn't there, the image itself isn't that bad but that "logo"... ugh. If that changes, I'll shut up about the sleeve.

Yes, I know. Sometimes you just have to use these technical terms, even at the risk of not being understood by the non-specialist.

It does look better when you see it in high resolution and doesn't look cheap at all IMO. That grid is kinda cool when you zoom in to it. Only that big O looks a bit strange.
Seriously I think there are uglier covers in his discography.

hehe,
well i didnt want to fly off the handle about the cover, after all it does not affect the music, but i felt if i could sum it up in one word what would it be, and that sprung to mind.
