Not the music that is.

I just realized that I've probably never heard this album, and now they say a new one is comming along.

I know I've been out of the loop lately, but to get almost two albums behind??

Awww

I love when people are being positive :D

But we'll see how I like it.

And just remember that Amarok came after Earth Moving

Light isn't that great...

Hmm - will wait and see.  Just listened to Shade and enjoyed it - will be playing Light tomorrow.

Couldn't wait - listened today - really enjoyed it.

For me, this makes it refreshing - the interplay of Mike's guitars and keyboards with the synths is a breath of fresh air.

I really struggled with this one.

I just don't like stuff where the rhythm tracks take over with simplistic melodies over the top. It's like ambient disco :/

It is far from being one of MO's best - and possibly his worst (forgive me everybody) and I just can't stand that Our Father bit.

All his inventiveness seems to have gone - almost seems (God forbid) that he had finally run out of tunes because some of them seem awfully familiar.

I hate to say it, but it just seems lazy, with computers and synthesisers taking over rather than the compositional originality which MO is famed for. I was really worried perhaps he had finally dried up - I mean how many melodies can any man be expected to create in a lifetime? Bless him - he has given us thousands so far (half of them on Amarok)

The best thing is the cover design with its clever images applied to the metal gauze...

The one good thing about light&shade is,
when the music stops your ears will stop bleeding

Well, anything that produces strong emotions in people, either positive or negative, usually has something going for it. Now if the record produced indifference it would really be something to worry about.

Both albums are about absence, lack - and they have their counterpart with the landscapes of Maestro, which seem increasingly sad and harrowing each time I explore them.
