My question: "Would you like to live for ever?"
I'm assuming Mike would have to answer truthfully.

I would ask him to describe how the best things he has lived feel like for him. I'm not interseted in what these things are.

I'd like to know if he's read White Gold Wielder by Stephen Donaldson. And if so, get his opinion on the book's ambiguity with Tolkien's 'The Lord of the Rings'.
I'm assuming Hergest Ridge alluded to Strider (Aragorn).

Richard Branson investing in The Sex Pistols
well, richard branson is your typical capitalist greedy for everything he can get. and he's done exceptionally well out of M.O.

i don't know whether any of you saw it, but earlier during the first covid19 lockdown branson - who overextended himself with his airline - was asking the britgov for a 500m pound bailout.

didn't get it yet.

What's  the Strider reference in Hergest Ridge?

hergeST RIDgE

I thought that obvious, sorry! It's a bad habit, presuming others know just what I'm on about.
The missing R can be found in 'Flight to the Ford', from Fellowship of the Ring -
the bit where Frodo plays sleigh bells.

Aaah. Ok. Well, yes, I would. Everyone always lives in the now, and if you asked one of the people who say they wouldn't like to live forever, "OK, would you like to die now, they would reply with alarm "of course not!". I think people are scared of large numbers: the idea of, for example, a trillion of anything terrifies them. But those people live through a trillion picoseconds every second, so what's the problem? I find the idea of infinity exhilarating.

If you remove the letters of "Strider" from "Hergest Ridge" you are left with the letters of  "He egg", which indexes Mike Oldfield's Heaven's Open album cover.

I would ask Mike what he thinks makes his guitar style so unique.

I imagine he'd find that question annoying, almost on par with "Why did you write Tubular Bells?". If I'm allowed another, musicianly question, I'd ask him if he likes the sound of the erhu, and whether he would ever give it a prominent place in a composition. There are all sorts of musical combinations probably unexplored anywhere, such as that of erhu and autoharp.

I don't think he would at all, I don't think he minds questions about his playing style, I think he would prefer questions that are different from the normal ones he gets from interviewers, which tend to be about Tubular Bells. It's the same when Mark Knopfler is interviewed, and they ask him about Money For Nothing!!! How many more times? things like that can be found out very quickly with a Google search.
