Although I have never done it with my records, I believe that it is possible to identify the edition / release date of a record using the matrix number on the run-out groove.

Last week I picked up a cassette of Tubular Bells, and I was curious if a similar thing exists for cassettes. Specifically, I am interesting in knowing when the cassette was made because it sounded really good with none of the deterioration in quality that I am used to in some of my other cassettes from the 70s.

Anyone know if such a thing exists? Or if there is another way to identify (roughly) when a specific cassette tape was manufactured?
