Olivier Group: Super Admins Posts: 1865 Joined: Nov. 1999 Posted: Mar. 02 2006, 17:02 I noticed some members use huge images from tubular.net (or sometimes from somewhere else) for their avatars. Even if the avatar appears small, the browser actually loads the whole image, which slows down a lot the forums. So please do not use very large images for your avatars. Thanks! Back to top

An avator is not meant to be animated. Since most forums accept GIF files you can use animated gifs but that increases the file size enormously. A typical avator is about 5000 to maximum 10000 bytes. Now since we all have our cache in the net browser, it must only be loaded once, but still ... a lot of people clear their cache on a daily bases, and not every one has broadband access. -------------- I sure hope that Mike realises what joy he brings to us ! Sysiyo Group: Members Posts: 245 Joined: Feb. 2003 Posted: Mar. 04 2006, 04:55 Since the avatars here are always resized into a width of 64 pixels, it would be ideal if people used an image-editing program to resize the image which they wish to use into that width (as a result the image will look much clearer, in addition to being in smaller filesize), then upload the image into an image-hosting site on the web (I use Photobucket which is free and pretty reliable).
