I'm talking about the fast triplet (sextuplet, actually) solo from the middle of 'Ommadawn, part 1'. I'm currently working on it. I've got most of it down, I'm just having trouble figuring out the string skipping bit - does anyone on here have a tab for it?

What the bit after the harp section before the build up starts for the end?Er i can find my way back down the neck (although not at the speed Mike does)but when it gets to the bottom of the neck i get lost.Really lost.I can just about play the solo at the end but this bit i find really hard work!

It's a very very difficult passage. I'm working on it from time to time when I pick up an electric.
But I wonder if Mike can play it. At the time when he was touring and playing the piece often he still had trouble getting it right. Sometimes bum notes crept into the triplets. On the Montreux DVD he has real trouble playing this solo.

He plays it almost perfectly in this video (Notice Maggie Reilly rolling around on the floor?). Much better than the Montreux performance. I notice that this section was excluded from the NOTP performance... which does make me wonder...

That's cool and yes he does nail it.Funny thing is apart from Maggie,Mike and Pierre Moerlin i  don't recognise anyone else in the band.Who's the other singer?I think i caught a glimpe of Hansford Rowe which would put it to the 1980 tour that Knebworth was part of.But the other singer doesn't look like Wendy Roberts.Am i right?

Sorry, I don't know enough about Mike's live bands to say definitively, but I don't recognize the other singer either.

The other give away is the T-shirt.Did he ever wash the bloody thing?Almost as bad as the skiiny top he always wore early on!The only thing that concerns about placing it is that he's on the SG when he was most ofted seen with the L6S on this tour.
Syd B,that just shows that you're not such a nerd as the rest of us which is probably no bad thing.

She's Virginia Clee. Morris Pert and Tim Cross was also there and Tim Renwick played guitars along with Mike. One source for this information is the Tubular Bells Part One "Finale" part at the same concert :), another one is the Tourography of The Official Mike Oldfield Information Service homepage. This concert was the closing one the Five Miles Out Tour in 1982.

Ah, and unfortunately I can't play the solo.

Maggie Reilly is ruining it. I really don't like her, very bad artist. I understand now the lipsync in recent concerts, you can't trust singers.

I agree, near perfect playing.

The vocals are too high pitched - like they're just doing their own thing. By the end it's like - put a sock in it, please :/.
