During a recent listening, I was reminded of some previous comments regarding happiness, sadness, and anger in MO's music. Since I find Amarok to be 'happy' music, I was curious how others feel. So, what do you get from Amarok?

Chose awed.

Though 'hap, hap, happy' comes close  ;)

To my mind that's one the things the he does best. All the finales on his recordings are really something else-except a New Beginning.

Agree with you about "A New Beginning", Mr C - but as I've said before I'd really prefer that Amarok ended with the tubular bells section. I generally stop listening when that's finished, as I think the subsequent music, the Thatcher impression etc are an anticlimax. (It has to be said that I feel the same way about Beethoven's 9th - the fourth movement should stop with the well known melody, dammit, and sonata form be buggered!;)

Yeah the Thatcher bit's a bit of an oddball.I guess you had t be there.I was and i did laugh but it's wearing a bit thin.Incidentally have you ever seen Spitting Image? The lady who does the impression, who's name escapes me at the moment, used to do the voice of old Maggie on that.
Nothing beats the end of Ommadawn side 1 for endings (or "Just beginings").A close second would be Far Above The Clouds.

That's the trouble with jokes - there's only a limited number of times you can hear them. And as is well known, "I don't get Ommadawn"! (Makes a change from people who say they don't get Amarok, doesn't it!;)

I think the best example of a piece that keeps on getting better and better (almost to the end) is "Taurus 2", and I fully concur with what Smillsoid has said about that.

For me, everything about 'Amarok' is comprised into the post mmm... section, near the beginning.

I mean, if Tubular Bells III was wonderful, terrible, crazy, perfect, I reckon 'Amarok' must be happy, messy, sudden, and mad.

Wow, been listening to 'Taurus II' recently and I deeply agree with you. Even with the term "almost", because I would maybe skip the ending part from that statement (only said "maybe").

Agree, Delfin. The last few minutes are an anti-climax. My comments apply up to an including the chant. Actually, I'm going to listen to that today; thanks for putting me in the mood!

Is there any way of reporting any message as offensive and non-appropiate in this forum? If not, there should be any. I can't stand quiet reading to that garbage.

I'll find out about it.

...most certainly not aroused! Who on earth would get aroused by Amarok?

Well, now, let's not be so hasty. A couple of responses were "all of the above", after all. I don't think it's so fa fetched for a piece of music, with as many climaxes as Amarok has, to be considered somewhat exciting.

Ah but aroused doesn't neccessarilly as in the sexual sense, there's Ommadawn Pt 1  for making love to    :) .  Amarok arouses feelings of frustration and confusion within me.  Frustration as I want to like it, but it just leaves me confused  :O  :O .
