Yes Drealm, credit to Knife Edge; - he says "the 12:12 incident ruined it."

Maybe it should be labelled the 12:12 critical incident, or the 12:12 emergency.

I suggest "The 12:12 critical climax"

Drealm; why "critical climax"? Is it because the banjo buts in at a critcal moment as the climax begins to build momentum.

Knife Edge; - credit where credit is due, the banjo is a serious incident - "12:12 incident" :(

It's not a banjo and it's not an incident. It's fantastic. :D

I agree!

But I still think it comes in some beats too early. ;)

It's an acoustic guitar, strummed very hard. :)

Are you sure Ugo, it sounds very banjo to me. I think we should seek an opinion from one of our "Hergest Ridge" experts; Hergest Fridge, Hergestbridge or Ridge Van Hergest - perhaps? ;)

@ Wiga: George Formby played an ukulele-banjo, which was a compound of both instruments. Apart from that, yes, I am sure - I can reproduce the same sound on my own acoustic guitar, although not witht he same chords.

Actually - I'm thinking 12:12 has got more of a mandolin twang than acoustic when listening to them side by side.

@ Wiga: it may sound like a mandolin because the whole part is played on high, shrill notes. But I can guarantee you that it is a six-string acoustic guitar. :)

@ milamber: well, he didn't actually break the guitar, but I'd bet that he snapped quite a few strings while doing that. :)

@ wiga: it is not an incident in no fucking way at all. :D Sorry, admins - I just felt like writing that. :)

Drealm; why "critical climax"? Is it because the banjo buts in at a critcal moment as the climax begins to build momentum.

I would say because I think this is the "worst" new thing about HR 2010; it spoils an otherwise (as in 1974 and 1976) very deep and calm moment; the "banjo/guitar/mandolin strummed very hard" is really not welcome for me, so "critical climax" is about this most annoying addition in HR 2010!

OK OK guys lets just agree that something happened at 12:12 lets not make this into a incident that reaches a critical climax.
Keep in mind that with all the new editions Mike has gone back to produce the artist preferred release and if its there its because He damn well wanted it there .
Lets trust his judgement :)

Sorry just my  F***ing two cents worth :D :O

I have to agree that this bit is really dodgy and was my best bit of part one..... WHY ????
As to what it is.... I think its an clean electric guitar either..Pitch shifted ,by slowing down the tape to record it (This would explain why its so badly out of time)... or its through some harmonizer..but Im not sure if they were around then , I think so..an early eventide...
Whatever it is, its sounds bad and is soooo out of  time.... what was he thinking... that section ..what I used to call the sleigh bell section was perfect...and builds lovely...it just didnt need this horrid guitar....Ive tried to ignore this distraction..
BUT the rest of the mix is AMAZING>...
