I think that right now I should give my twopence worth, but half of me says I should hold back.

Damn. There's another fine forum ruined. Never mind, just to be the first to post here (before Tim gets a chance tongue)

I don't have it, but looking at the tracklist, it doesn't look too good. I mean, who needs 5 versions of TB/1 on the same CD? My home-made "Essential Tubular Bells" contains bits from all of the good instalments (being the "good" ones, it leaves out TMB), including opening and closing themes fr. TB/1, the bagpipes theme from TB/2, about 4 things from TBII/1, MITR, and that climactic finish to TBIII/2 (without the 1½' of birdsong @ end). They could have made some variations like putting in the bagpipes, Dark Star or Serpent Dream, or even Top o/t Morning.

Could anyone that's bought it pass judgement on my comments please

1)Bought it for completeness sake
2)listened to it once
3)nothing there I hadn't heard 100 times already
4)disregarding commercial reasons,it's a pointless release
5)Not a proper MO CD.Won't bother listening to it again.

Well, I recieved this Cd today. Am I the only one who like it ?????

All right, all this content is perfectly well known.
All right, every children with a CD burner and a simple audio tool can do the same.
All right, artwork (LOL !!!) is ... can find find word.... wink
BUT !

Maybe we should divide this CD in 4 Part :

1) The Very Best of TB1 (1-7) :
I find this mix very cool... switching from original to orchestral, to exposed.... It's cool.
Tracks 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 are great.

2) The 'I only know those two tracks' of TB2
Even if well known wink, I like how Sentinel and The Bell are mixed together

3) The 'Oh I should buy some right to WEA so don't spend too much money for' TB3
Well, it's just FATC

4) The 'Didn't Mike did something for the Millenium ?' MB
Well it's just TMB

.... Oh yes, let's put SH at the end, like in TB1...

In fine, this is a commercial thing, but some part are very very very cool. I know, i love TB1, so tracks from 1 to 7 are simply excellent for me.... but I understand that people don't like it...

Cheers,
GMOVJ

i bought this CD in Germany on vacation, only because i thought i would not be able to purchase it in the USA. it's a nice CD. however, like someone else mentioned, it's nothing new and most likely didn't really need to be made. still it's Tubular Bells (all versions of them), and i just could not past it up.

Well would you look at that! (see 'Ozvailability')

I am only a few years past being a child, and have used a CD burner to make a best of TB compil.

Mmmh... (I seem to begin every other post with that  :D ) I like the artwork! I'm a fan of minimalist art!  :p
But apart from that, the album is utterly useless. Nobody will buy it (or am I wrong?) and aesthetically it's a desaster. You could perhaps make an interesting TB compilation if you had to, but you would have to put much more effort into that.

The only reason for me to like it, is because it's the very first MO-album I got. So I've got an emotial connection with the way the tracks are arranged.

For the rest it is just one of those dark, evil commercial products... :/

Bored at work so going through older topics. This is a strange one.My favourite part of the original is the beginning of side 2,especially the organn and acoustic guitar part. There's something very plaintive and haunting about the peice. You can even hear young Michael breathing. How on eartth was this left off a 'best of'?And the placing of Sentinal is all wrong.I don't really dislike it as an album but key parts are missing.Who decides what constitutes a best of?It can't be taken as a normal greatest hits package as it's really different versions of 1 peice of music (TB3/The Millenium Bell not withstanding as neither of these has much to do with the original IMHO).A really wierd idea which should have flowed from one section to the next (as indeed it does in a few places)but then is interupted by totally unrealted bits. The solution i came up with was to make a tape of the best bits from my collection as thought it should be but wasn't. :)

There's also a strong feeling of milking TB from Virgin. There's a hint that Mike may have had somethintg to do with it it the liner notes but i somehow doubt he did.He saved that for the Platinum Collection but only then to say he liked it.

Mike has been quoted as saying he was never completely happy with tb 1, imho all the tbs1.2 3 are unique beautiful pieces, mike is a perfectionist and his harshest critic, deb
