Spent most of this afternoon compiling some cd`s for my daughter, who is hosting a Halloween themed evening in the bar where she works. Here`s a list of what I`ve got so far. Some are pretty tenuous I guess but are in there either because I like them,or I felt they would go down pretty well. The clientel is pretty mixed across all age groups so I tried to put in something for everybody..

So any obvious ones that I`m missing,or any other suggestions would be welcome?Or even something I`ve never even heard of,that might be a personal favourite of your own etc.Daft answers are allowed..

Thriller..Michael Jackson
Ghostbusters..Ray Parker Jnr
Scary Monsters & Super Creeps...David Bowie
Spooky...Andy Williams
Ghost Town...The Specials
Hammer Horror..Kate Bush
Peek A Boo....Siouxsie And The Banshees
Devil Woman...Cliff Richard
The Time Warp...Rocky Horror
Lullaby...The Cure
Zombie Nation..Kernkraft 400
What`s That Coming Over The Hill...The Automatic
Werewolves Of London...Warren Zevon
Death & Night & Blood...The Stranglers
Don`t Fear The Reaper...Blue Oyster Cult
Devil Gate Drive...Suzi Quatro
Halloween...The Dead Kennedys
Black Magic Woman..Carlos Santana
666 Number Of The Beast...Iron Maiden
Zombie Stomp...Ozzy Ozbourne & Rob Zombie
Halloween Dance..Reverand Horton Heat
Bad Moon Rising...Creedence Clearwater Revival
Bedazzled..Peter Cook & Dudley Moore
Li`l Devil...The Cult
Adams Family Groove...MC Hammer (This is quite possibly the worst record ever made)
Amityville..Lovebug Starski (Quite possibly the best record ever made, containing the greatest impression of William Shatner ever commited to vinyl)
Sympathy For The Devil..The Rolling Stones

There`s a few tv themes thrown in there as well,..Rentaghost,Count Duckula,Buffy,Scooby Doo and a surf guitar version of The Munsters theme.

I dunno, but I'll tell you a little story. When I was 16 I bought an album called Renaissance-Novella. A 15yo friend of mine came over and I played "Can You Hear Me?" He said it scared the hell out of him.
I'll tell ya another story, I bought Steve Hackett's Darktown and my GF at the time said "In Memorium" gave her the creeps.
And then I thought of Alice Cooper's "I Love The Dead".

Cool video that`s all new to me I must admit.

Yeah Moondance(Van Morrison) and Alice Cooper are good suggestions, unfortunatly I don`t own any of their stuff. And I have to confess I completely forgot about the whole Exorcist thing, maybe I could shoehorn The Source Of Secrets or something in there.Could`nt possibly go with a TB1 excerpt, the lack of drums would freak people out..Then again though maybe that`s the point I guess!?       :p

The coop is good for halloween......always was. Ted Nugent used to shoot a pumpkin on stage with a 12 guage.....got bad publicity for that. Can't imagine why. No one was ever hurt. Stay with the coop, he was halloween from 1969 on......

Yeah Ted Nugent was a pretty scary bizzare guy..So what the hell happened to rock music?..Mike Oldfield appears in a pair of swiming trunks and it`s all the talk of the award ceremonies. You know back in the day this guy was wrestling with lions and shooting wild-life in his back garden and nobody was batting an eye-lid.That was just the norm back then I guess.Plus Mike was kind of meek in comparison to most of those other dudes. You know,I don`t think he`d have been throwing tv sets out of windows and stuff put it that way.Not unless he was using it to fend off a lion.

Anyway here`s one I forgot earlier...Monster Mash..Bonzo Dog Band or the original by The Crypt Kicker 5 or whatever the hell they were called!?

@Dirk Star.Rentaghost.There's blast from the past!Gadzouks!!!

If your mansion house needs haunting
Just call Rentaghost
We've got freaks and fools and creeps and ghouls
At Rentaghost
Hear the phantom of the opera
Sing a haunting melody
Remember what you see is not a mystery
At Rentaghost

Lyrics to the closing credits were slightly different:

If your party needs a Smartie
Just call Rentaghost
We've got freaks and fools and creeps and ghouls
At Rentaghost
For a biography we've ghost writers
And not forgetting a ghost script
Remember what you see is not a mystery
At Rentaghost

[Witches' cackle to fade]

That would`ve been a cool track to add, although funnily enough I did remember to add that Danny Elfman song just before I gave my daughter the cd`s.Liked the idea of The Zombies songs MCH :p

The Halloween night was a big success with games for the kids, and a halloween themed quiz thing later in the evening.I think even the people who were`nt really into it at first, managed to enjoy themselves. There was a good turn out of fancy dress as well.My wife had a red dress she wanted to wear and kind of adapted it into red-riding hood.So on the back of that I decided to go as the big bad wolf I guess.Except I went more kind of Tex Avery wolf, with the big old 1940`s Zoot Suit, bow tie, handkerchief etc.I got so comfortable in it,I wanted to put it on again this morning when I got up.Folks knew how to dress in those days, that`s for sure.

Anyway I`ve got to say the whole night was my daughter`s idea, who planned and orchestrated the whole thing.Management were kind of against it really,as it`s a pretty "conservative" establishment where she works. However they were so impressed with the proceedings(they even stood up and gave her a round of applause at the end of the night) ..they asked her if she would do a similar kind of evening somewhere round Christmas time.I`ve got to say though,I can`t say I`m as excited about dressing up as an elf.

Yes I have to agree DS that people knew how to dress in the 40's.  All I seem to see round here are tracksuited chavs.  OK tracky bottoms are fine for lounging around the house in or running. I know one friend calls my area "The Bronx" f I'm in "The Bronx"  in a semi rural area then I dread to think what it's like to live in the main cities.

About The Zombies the only song I really know by them is "She's Not There".
You also mentioned Ted Nugent earlier, I know my ex is into him, but yes I've always found him strangely scary.  The only song I can think of by him is "Wango Tango", my ex would drive me nuts with him , I seem to remember him semi naked with a guitar on one album cover, pulling such an expression on his face   :/  :O WAAAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!

Well, its kinda like Christmas in one respect--behind the candy and the commercialism, there is a sacred observance. In some of our earth-based traditions, Halloween/Samhain is very important--a cross quarter from the equinox/solstice observances. At this time of the year especially, it is said that one can glimpse beyond the veil shrouding the other world...the veil is thin. We journey through guided meditation to the Summerlands to talk to our departed loved ones...to seek advice, to say "I'm sorry," to tell them something, to hear something. In our group, we each bake something in a loved one's honor for the feast following the ritual. Before anyone partakes, though, we take turns explaining whom we are honoring and why we brought the food with us that we did. Then, we place a small portion of what we brought on a communal plate. When complete, the plate's contents are offered to the bonfire. I am sure it sounds strange to some, but it is a way to remember, honor, and connect with our memories.

I love this time of the year and think how much endings truly are only beginnings. <-:

I'll offer up "Witchy Woman,"  "Season of the Witch, and "Slipstream," the latter which I find very spooky.

Ooooh--Speaking of "Tubular Bells" -- a colleague said it was playing on regular radio here on Friday! Awesome!
