Wow you guys work fast!!! I certainly wasn't expecting Crises for the next project, but I'm really glad you have chosen it because it is my favourite of Mike's long pieces. It makes me wish I was a musician so I could join in....

Hope it all goes well, and I'll be looking forward to it!

Quote (Sir Mustapha @ Nov. 06 2003, 05:30)
I've been thinking about the "vocals/no vocals" issue yesterday, too. Mind you, I'm a Shower Singer (bathrooms have great acoustics :) ), but if I was to sing the vocals, I don't know if I have enough power in my vocal chords. I have the range, I can get in tune, but in the end, I feel it comes out way too whiny... but if we stop and think, Mike does sound whiny on Crises, and that's the point! :D

And, obviously, if I were to sing in the project, I'd be embarrassed as hell.

About making the MIDI. Would it help if I set up the tempo and lay down the drums? I think we would, at least, have the correct rhythm. I don't know how innacurate the MIDI in question is, but I can try giving a hand in remaking it. I wouldn't have the nerve to go and do the entire thing, though, because I have my own projects and all. But what I can say in the moment is, well, let there be drums.

What do you say?

The existing MIDI is quite inaccurate across the board, including the drums.

What do you mean by "the entire thing?" If you mean the drums through the "Crises, Crises" part, don't worry about those. I'm able and willing to play that part. (I've listened to it carefully, and I have no doubt that I can record/program an accurate rendition of it.)

Cheers,

Carsten Haese.

Crises said that he would have to remake most of the Crises MIDI - that's what I meant with "the entire thing". I was willing to supply the drum track, but it isn't my intention to provide the rest of the instruments.

Sir Mustapha - If you could do that, that would be fantastic. I would be ever so grateful if you could. That means i could build the rest of the midi from that :)

Excellent! :) I'll be working on that today and tomorrow. I guess it will be ready this weekend.

I followed the Finale thread really closely and wished I could have been a part of it. If there's any need for someone who can play guitar, bass, or sniff at 0:11 seconds into the track this time round, count me in!  :)

We need a bassist that can play/learn part 3'49 - 5'44 in crises. Still in?  :)

Cool! I hope you can collaborate with us.

By the way, the drum track is written already. It's in MIDI format, like we planned, and it took quite some effort to do: even if the drum playing is rather simplistic, the tempo keeps going up and down through the song, so I made sure that the tempo in the MIDI was the most precise possible. The changes are subtle, of course, but... I'm a friggin' perfectionist. ;)

As soon as the MIDI is completed and we can start collaborating, I can record the drums in regular MP3 to enhance them a little. Even if my MIDI gear has good drums, it can use a little more punch and realism.

Now... how can I send the file to you?

Oh, I forgot a little detail. The MIDI goes on up to the 7 minute mark, before the slower part - i.e., the "crises, crises" part is included... just in case, if we decide to include that part too.

If we do, and a better vocalist doesn't appear... I guess you can count on me. ;)

Hi again

I've just actually *listened* to the passage yous are planning to do, and i think I'm going to have to pass on playing bass - I had no idea it was as tricky as that. At least it sounds tricky, I've got nothing to go by to try and learn it and I'm crap at picking up complicated basslines, being a guitarist first.

What did strike me while i was listening, is why not start at 2:20? There's a lot of different guitar parts to go around as it nears the 3:49 section. Just a suggestion!

Also, I don't know if it's been finalised yet, but I think the verse bit should definately be included, mostly from the point of view that there's a definitive end-point there (before the Watcher bit), rather than having it just "stop"!

I'll shut up now, since I'm not even doing anything yet!!  :p

EDIT: The bass has been changed on the midi...it's a lot easier now :) i don't think anyone apart from Mike or maybe John Myung (from Dream Theater) could play the original bass line. Check out the midi and see what you think

Ok i've finished Guitar 1, Synth 1 and Synth2 parts up to 5'44. I just can't work out Guitar 2 and Bass (theyre both playing the same thing) Any helpers?

Finished all parts up from 3'49 to 5'44.

Crises.mid

Thanks to Sir Mustapha and Tommes :D made things a lot easier for me :)

Tommes - I had a bit of trouble converting your guitar midi track into this one so it sounds a bit weird (tempo changes)...if you could correct this that would be great
