Am I correct in assuming that the entirety of "Taurus II" was never performed live by Mike? From what I've heard, Mike usually played about the last 5-6 minutes of that piece on that tour.

No, in 1982 and 1983 Taurus II was always performed entirely. On Discovery Tour in 1984 they played a 5-minute excerpt (final) only.

I remember there was supposed to be a support act at Hammersmith Odeon which never happened, don't know if this was the reason for that gig being the longest or not.....was good though  :D

Etude live in 1982. Isn't that a bit early?

And who sang In High Places during that tour?

Yes that's right Etude was tagged onto the end of in high places, and maggie sang it.It's also a much better version than the Jon Anderson Crises version  IMO. :)

In High Places was demoed live, with nonsense lyrics. I recall (but my memory maybe faulty) it being introduced as the "Leprauchan Song", also Etude was introduced s "German Classic"

The answer is 42 - but what is the question?

Some would argue that In High Places was not only demoed - but also recorded with nonsense lyrics. Just like all other songs Jon wrote the words for!  :D

Indeed. While not exactly the be-all-and-end-all of factual accuracy, they claim 3 discs and the following track listing:

Disc: 1
1. Taurus II
2. Family Man
3. Orabidoo
4. Mount Teidi
5. Five Miles Out
6. Waldberg (The Peak)
7. Five Miles Out

Disc: 2
1. Tubular Bells Part One
2. Sheba
3. Mirage
4. Family Man
5. Taurus II
6. Mount Teidi
7. Five Miles Out
8. Guilty

Disc: 3
1. Taurus II
2. Family Man
3. Orabidoo
4. Mount Teidi
5. Five Miles Out
6. Five Miles Out - Mike Oldfield, Maggie Reilly

So it seems pretty clear that disc 2 is a live disc, any thoughts on 3? Slightly rejigged version of the album with another one of the legendary versions of FMO on it? An entire disc of alternate versions?

Possible that disc 1 is the fully remastered album with a couple of bonus tracks (Waldberg and an alternate FMO) and disc 3 is the original mix (with a bonus version of FMO) for people who like that? Looking forward to more information on this one!

Disc three is a DVD with a 5.1 remix of the entire album plus a special version of FMO track, i think.

The extra FMO on the DVD could be the promo video?

Maybe.... But there are two different versions of FMO track on Disc 1, so i assume the same two versions are on the DVD but remixed in 5.1.

I have the new 2CD/DVD!!
The sound on CD1 is fantastic: transparent, lush, detailed...so much better than my congested old Disky CD.

CD2: 80 minutes of live Oldfield bliss. Maggie's voice is shot right after Tubular Bells, but she's a trooper!

DVD: Now listen to this: it has a DTS 96/24 track!! Yes, finally they get something right, I guess all the complaining about Dolby Digital only worked.
The mix itself is a shocker. NOTHING like the familiar stereo mix. A truly alternative mix. Bass guitar pushed really high in the mix. Dry as a bone and emphasizing mostly on stuff that wasn't really audible before. Surround mixing is tasteful too.
Overall a truly raw, rough mix. It appears there wasn't much futzing with EQ and effects like on Hergest Ridge.
What a fantastic release. So happy!

Both CRISES and FIVE MILES OUT in DTS 96/24 5.1! :D

OMG!!! Absolutely freakin' BRILLIANT!!!!

I have been bracing myself to become disappointed (again! ) when my copy arrives in letterbox today to discover only LOSSY DOLBY DIGITAL... :/

So AMAZING NEWS that FINALLY the studio has listened to mine and the other fine ladies and gentlemen complaining about DD only! :D

THANK YOU studio for listening to us fans!!! :)

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE release ALL future Deluxe titles in DTS 96/24 5.1 (and NOT just LOSSY DOLBY DIGITAL! )  ;)

I think the 5.1 miix of Five Miles Out is appalling .

Every track ( except FMO) has had its beginning cut .

Taurus 2 is a mess with Maggies melodys buried down in the mix, and Paddys pipes right up front .

The only saving grace I got from it was when FMO started a small section of TB1 can be heard at the beginning in the rear channels .

2 out 5 for me, sorry.

My reactions are also quite mixed, confused of the FMO 5.1 mix. I'm so used to the stereo mix and really miss in a lot places the drums in the surround mix. Orabidoo; my favourite song from the album, intro with guitar and vibraphone cut off.. why? Well it starts fine, but I don't like when the volume of the drums is set low in the second part.

All in all, after only a first listen, the FMO 5.1 mix is interesting considering the effects that are added. Have to listen the surround mix a lot of times before I can give a better review.

Cheers
