Like everyone says, very difficult to choose. the instrumentals are always going to win it for me though. Despite the beautiful "Ireland's Eye" section in Orabidoo, Taurus II narrowly gets my vote.

Anyone know what Orabidoo means btw - anything or just nonsense?

I went for Five Miles Out.
Taurus II is also awesome, but it did take a while to grow on me, and I've been addicted to the title track since I got the album.

Ebony, you might like this YouTube video of a live "Taurus 2"  performance. It's the end section only (and from one gal to another, I think he was pretty darn hot there).

Ebony,

Well...I always loved the track five miles out....was a little bit interested in Taurus II and totally disliked family man.....untill I stumbled on a live recording from Wembley 1983...OHHH my god...I would have given anything to be at that concert.

Taurus II (and he also played Taurus I)  was just so amazing and MO´s guitar playing just stunned me  :O

Five miles out was even more a great number - Roger Chapman, Maggie and MO kicked so much ass, that I really got to like family man (live version that is :p )  ....what a great performance...great sound at that concert.

Now I´m addicted ....some take drugs others alcohol and some are addicted to bingo, but my fix is the live concert from wembley 1983....  if I don´t get my weekly fix (at least twice).. I get the shakes...my vision gets blurred and I have coldsweats  :)

Mike Oldfield if you´re out there....release a video from  that concert... I will do what it takes.....buy you a new car, build you a house, fly you to the moon or remove virgin records from the face of the Earth...you name it!    :D

Mike

Ooh, wow!  Yes, I do like.  Makes me appreciate the music more when I hear/see a live version.  But then Mike live in general is like a whole new level of wonderous.  And I agree, he was looking rather gorgeous!  ;)

I'm quite a Montreux 81 addict myself; this Wembley concert sounds rather fantastic though.  Have to see if I can find it somewhere.

Oh, I'd forgotten about this. I hadn't decided last time... (but, in the words of Rush, "If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice"! )

But I think I'll go for Five Miles Out. :)

I was unsure whether to choose Five Miles Out or Taurus II, but hey, Taurus won! :)

I enjoy those guitar sections on the course of the song... they are so powerful! ;)

Speaking of Five Miles Out - I just found this video for the first time today.   Mike's got the best hair ever, but I do think he's a bit overacting.  Why is he looking so angry?  At any rate, great video and I really enjoyed seeing it.

I suppose that, when it comes to Mike's hair, I'm as fascinated as the next fan, but I'm not fond of the style there.

Whooa! - I'd forgotton about the first 2 minutes of Orabidoo, it completely disarmed me after listening to all that bull and testosterone, Taurus II (skipped Family Man). How does he do that, switch from bull to defenceless kitten like that?

Oldfield......The Ultimate Shape Shifter.Perhaps that's why he called his book Changeling.
I love FMO and always had but Oribidoo does it for me everytime and i have to agree Wiga the first little section is utterly disarming.

the Title Tk 5MO   is out there  as my Fav...   Its pretty unique sounding... Cannt think of much else out there that sounds Alike... Pretty hard to find a unique song with vocals these days.. But this is sort of standalone....

"Five Miles Out" - yes good stuff! - (unique lyrics and vocals).

"Your a prisoner of the dark sky
The propeller blades are still
And the evil eye of the hurricane's
Coming in now for the kill.."

@ Prisoner - I realise the origin of your name  :O

I must confess and say that FMO is not one of my favourite MO albums. I didn't rate it very highly when I bought the cassette back in the mid 80s. And on the rare occasions I have listened to it again nothing really grabs my imagination unfortunatly.

However I am playing it right now after a break of about 10 years, and am beginning to have a strong fondness for Taurus & Orabidoo, with the latter just getting my vote.

I guess this is one of those albums that takes time to mature for some people to really like. :)

My favourite tracks: "Taurus 2", without a doubt, then "Mount Teidi", then "Oorabidoo" (except for the vocal. The line "Changing seasons come and go" is extremely clumsy - if they're changing, of course they're coming and going!;)
