I haven't seen that video for a while. Isn't it something like a mullet?

That's harsh! Yes it is a LOT like a mullet, I'm not saying he would get away with it now. I actually thought 'mullet' was an Aussie term only used here, we had a movie called 'Mullet' which was about fish and hairdos!

This song gives me the same creeps like Surfing do.

It's nice to know I'm not the only one who finds "Surfing" a little unnerving.

I was just listening to "No Dream", totally into the intensity, when I saw that and busted up laughing. Thanks for ruining the mood for me, Tubularman!

I really like several songs on this album, but I'm thinking Mike sounds the best - vocally - on "Gimme Back".

I suspect it's because surfing is not normally associated with shade, shadows, or darkness.

I hadn't thought much on it, before, but that sounds plausible.

I think "Heaven's Open" is a great song to sing along with. I kept replaying it on my way to work, the other day, wishing I'd memorized all the words.

Sweetpea, are you associational with music? I find that I have to be careful not to play something I like in a situation I don't like, otherwise the music will become "tainted". Conversely, I tend to associate "Heaven's Open" with a very happy time, and consequently now, when I listen to it, I tend to feel somewhat saddened, as circumstances have changed somewhat. (This hearkens back to some of my meditations on another thread, when I was speculating about people's pain, and how the slightest thing  might tip things for some people and cause them, say, to leave the forum.)

Don't dare to compare Mike's singing talents on Heaven's Open to what he did previously like on Rite of Man and On Horseback...on those tunes,he was singing like he was speaking...Heaven's Open, real singing,I don't care if Mike's says it all forced and so on...I love it soo much and how much I really wanna hear him singing again

At the moment, I don't recall any negative experiences that I associate with a specific piece of music. Unless it's Ommadawn, which I really got into around the time of a breakdown many years ago. But I associate the music with the positive feelings of release it gave me at the time. Even today, I'm strongly attached to that album, probably more on an emotional level than an intellectual one. I'm not sure if that's what you meant, though, nightspore? Your question brings up other lines of thought, though, such as how much suffering (or life experience) does one need to thoroughly appreciate art?

I didn't get around to responding to your comments about pain, in the other topic, but they reminded me that I share a similar philosophy (is that the right word?): that one doesn't know what pain another person may be living with. I try to keep that in mind, as well as Bill & Ted's "Be excellent to each other". Errr.. I suspect I may have totally embraced dork-dom, just now, by quoting Bill & Ted.

To this day, whenever I play Bowie's first album I feel like I just came back from the dentist.  And when I play "Low" I get an MSG reaction flashback.

No Dream rules that album; well, the A-side, anyway. :)

Interestingly, bassman, I associate Bowie's "Young Americans" with the dentist; it was playing on the radio just as I left said fang doctor. I have to be careful that I don't play music that I like in situations that could be unpleasant or later could be associated with loss.

Ugh.  I explained myself REALLY badly.  Those Bowie albums are a couple of my faves, but I meant to say that when I hear them that's what they remind me of (not the other way around)!  They make me happy despite the associations tied to them.

Definitely the title track, but all Mike's singing on here is very good, IMO. Does anyone know the chords to HO? Can't find them anywhere, and I'm a bit lazy (and incompetent) to try and work it out for myself.

btw, in a couple of weeks time I'm going to start meeting Helena Shenel for some singing lessons :D

Your favorite vocal perfomance from Mike on Heaven´s Open...

Has no-one honestly said that the best vocal performance on this album is the bit where he says 'Fuck off'? Really guys?
