Earth Moving has some great male power stuff particularly the title track, but for me Mike has always excelled with these cheesy chirpy pop songs with female singers. That's why I was blown away the first time I heard Innocent; I bought 1 of those mini cd singles when it came out and played it to death.
So no contest for me I'm afraid.

I thought "Earth Moving" (title track) was a female vocalist.

You're right, it is a female vocalist on Earth Moving. I'm afraid you must be mistaken lettherebeme, perhaps you've confused it with another track?

"See the Light" is perhaps a "male power vocal" song. Maybe "Hostage", too. I would not use the "male power vocal" description for "Runaway Son", "Holy", "Bridge", or "Far Country".

I love "Blue Night" as Maggie is singing (I think) and I love the acoustic guitar on this. I'm afraid the rest of the songs don't do much for me at all (although the Earth Miving video almost makes me vomit!!;)

I'm kind of in a good position in that I appreciate a good pop song as much as I appreciate beautiful pastoral stuff or headbanging prog riffs, so I find much to enjoy on this album.

Anyone who enjoys this album should try listening to 'Bankstatement' or 'Still' by Tony Banks (Genesis keyboard player) which I always find quite similar to it, actually. Probably a bit more depth to those albums actually but superficially quite similar, especially BS.

Anyway, I absolutely love Holy, Far Country, Blue Night and Earth Moving - ultimately voted for Earth Moving though, as it's wonderfully uplifting despite (or perhaps because of?!;) the cheesy 80's production.

Top album, anyway (and this is coming from a hardcore prog rock fan...)

James

Blue night. Partly for the guitar solo which has always been one of my favorites.

I feel bad that I have already voted, as I would have voted now for Runaway Son... I love it and it's a shame it's got nill votes!! (my favourite, with Hostage)
I always loved the song, and it's great that he uses some fragment from whatever it is!! sounds good anyway!

Greetings, Runaway son from Holland!  :D

I had my mom listen to some MO and she said that the only song she likes is Far Country. Interesting...

Is your Mum me?
