Kind of a slow, ominous version of it similar to "No Dream"? That could be interesting.

I would like to hear Mike singing Shadow on the Wall.

Bonnie Tyler should try Shadow on the Wall  :p

Roger Chapman should try Shine - now that would be weird!  ;)

Most of us wanna hear you on vocals!

I prefer the songs Mike has done using female singers. The only vocal of Mikes i really like is the FMO single. Now if you want to hear a class album full of guest artists....check out Shaman by Santana.

Because Mike Oldfield, while he's a truly amazing musician and composer, is a bloody atrocious lyricist.

Sometimes, yes.

But sometimes I think he's good.  It depends on the song.

I think the lyrics to Flying Start, Moonlight Shadow, To France, The Time Has Come and North Point are all good.  And even a song like On Horseback is delightful lyrically, occasional clumsy lines and all.

Mike has a powerfull, but colorless voice.
he should stick with Roger Chapman for hard rock, and miss Cara isnt really a good substitute for Maggie (oh yeah and that 'Shadow on the wall' of hers on Millenium bell live in Berlin makes me wanna shove a mic up her....well...u get the point) ,but whadougonnado...

oh yea....Oldfields (singing) voice has a striking resemblance with David Hasselhof's....i cant belive i said that....but its been haunting me since i heard them.

I really, really want to hear Mike singing again.
He's a very good singer with a extremly powerful voice.
He makes my skin crawl with his voice, especially when
he screams 'Go take a look!' in No dream.  :)

No, his voice for the most part, really does make my skin crawl!  :/

Locutus - I would wager that Mike wouldn't turn down a duet with Pammy.  :D

I am very late in getting into this discussion but wanted to add my piece.

First, I must say that Mike's voice is as good as many other vocalists I've heard.  He can carry a tune and sings with passion.

Secondly, I think to hear his voice is endearing.  It made me feel closer to him - as if I knew him a little better - and I truly appreciated that.  I am a long-time fan and have always felt he was quite elusive.

Overall I am not very fond of the album Heaven's Open.  The songs just don't seem to come close to the caliber of his other music.  I do like the title track however.

Mike is a man of many talents, which range from mastery of dozens of instruments to the ability to compose works that send shivers down our spine. His voice is not that great because it is not what he focuses on, and you can't expect him to be perfect at everything. I didn't like it, but I thought he showed excellent effort and he tried something new.

I love Mike's use of his voice on this album, it gives it the kind of 'homemade' feel that I like in Amarok and Ommadawn. Far less grandiose than other albums.

Great voice too!  :)

I have no problem with Oldfield singing, as long as someone else is writing the lyrics or he's doing wordless vocals.  Because Mike Oldfield, while he's a truly amazing musician and composer, is a bloody atrocious lyricist.

But his singing is fine.

Well he isn't atrocious IMO, maybe a little uninspired and dull but not atrocious! If his specialty is being a multi-musician and composer then he does a darn good job with some of his songs if you ask me, like you said his singing is fine.

"Moonbaywatch"
"Tubular Knight Industries 2003"
"Get to Trans-am"
"Amapontiak"
