I miss so many words even in songs I like that it hardly matters whether the songwriter is following or ignoring rules of cadence, rhyme or reason!  Until Leona Lewis went into Radio 1's Live Lounge, the only thing I ever took from a particular song by Snow Patrol was that it was the "Light Up" song.  I must have heard it said that I'd just heard Run hundreds of times and never remembered it.  Poetry is often favoured over storytelling when it comes to getting your point across and, as has been highlighted already, we owe a lot to the scribblings of Simon le Bon, aged 15 and 3/4. :D Let's all sing blue silver!

:D Let's all sing blue silver!

SING, SING... BLUE SILVER!!! :D

"The Chauffeur" - kind of like the weird lyrics on this one -

Out on the tar plains, the glides are moving
All looking for a new place to drive
You sit beside me so newly charming
Sweating dewdrops glisten freshing your side

And the sun drips down bedding heavy behind
The front of your dress - all shadowy lined
And the droning engine throbs in time
With your beating heart

Way down the lane away, living for another day
The aphids swarm up in the drifting haze
Swim seagull in the sky towards that hollow western isle
My envied lady holds you fast in her gaze

(chorus) (chorus)

Sing Blue Silver

And watching lovers part, I feel you smiling
What glass splinters lie so deep in your mind
To tear out from your eyes, with a thought to stiffen brooding lies
And I'll only watch you leave me further behind

(chorus) (chorus)

Sing Blue Silver
Sing, Sing.. Blue Silver

The rangers had a homecoming in Harlem late last night
And the Magic Rat drove his sleek machine over the Jersey state line
Barefoot girl sitting on the hood of a Dodge
Drinking warm beer in the soft summer rain
The Rat pulls into town rolls up his pants
Together they take a stab at romance and dissapear down Flamingo Lane.

Now ah dont know about anyone else but when thats the first verse ah hit the "next" button. Thank you Bruce

Now that made absolutely no sense what so ever. What was it?
Sounded like being trussed up in the boot of a car whilst travelling down a railway line. :/  :(

I think we should. I for one have to say, I couldn't make any sense out of them. Ah mean " Carried away by a moonlight Shadow." lol

The thing is ............it's a fantastic song. I remeber the first time I heard it was on Radio Two. As soon as it started I knew it was Mike but that was only confirmed by the fantastic solo. At the same time my heart sank because he had written a pop song. Then I found out it was on a new album. YeeeHaaaa Crises still a fave for me.

Ya know what don't make sense? MUSIC don't make sense, I tell ya! Think about it: we all just listenin' to air vibratin' and feeling all good dependin' on which frequencies are playin' at the same time, and how frequencies come one after another.

Not to mention Alanis Morissette's - "Ironic" :(

< backs out of the thread slowly>

Isn't it ironic? Don't you think?

I love that :p

Someone mentioned Leona Lewis earlier.

On `I Got You' it sounds to me like she's singing:

Though I've got a single bed,
I'll be a wreck.
Though I've had it maybe twice,
I'll be alright...

I'm not sure I want to know what she's really singing. I prefer this version.

Boney M. had lots of nonsense lyrics. "Brown girl in the ring (sha-la-la-la-la)... she looks like a sugar in a plum". I know what a sugar plum is, but what the fuck is a sugar in a plum??? :O OK, it's a traditional Caribbean song, but this doesn't justify its being nonsensical. Also "Hooray! Hooray!": "Well, I'm game, fun is the thing I'm after" - "I'm game" meaning he was shot during some hunting? :D

@ Branston: yes, it did sound like that. And the vinyl skips, which makes it even worse. :p
