On many songs, I've heard that Mike plays some really high notes and I think that he plays with an + 1 octave effect. Did he plays with it ?

Sometimes he used the Roland GR-300 guitar synth which has a pitch function (you can pitch it one octave up or down). Listen to the guitar solo in the track "Discovery" (has an added layer 1 octave up).

He also had that Gibson with the 2 extra frets and sometimes liked to record lead guitars at half speed.
