So Klaus Schulz formerly of Tangerine Dream and Ash Ra Tempel released an album of 20-something minute long new age, ambient compositions in 1976 called "Moondawn"...less than 6 months after Mike Oldfield released an album of 20-something minute long new age style compositions called "Ommadawn"......Admittedly the styles arent identical, Schulz's is more electronic and "spacey" whereas Oldfield's is more organic and "earthy". But still.  Even the covers are suspiciously similar.

Well, it's not strange that in the same times the same ideas appear. One gets his or her inspiration always from things that exist, coupled with some creativity. Especially in the same cultural and musical scenes it's very probable that things look or sound like eachother. Trends, you know...

Yes of course that's true, but only within reason...There is inspiration and homage and trends etc but what are the chances that within 6 months of each other you get a new age themed album called the highly unusual name of

- "Ommadawn"

And then one with the slightly less unlikely name of

- "Moondawn"!

They are virtual anagrams. Its not as if there was a "trend" in the mid 70s for progressive rock/folk/electronic musicians to record albums with names that are an anagram of "Wandamom" lol.  What if Jean Michel Jarre had released an album in 1975 called "Bulbous Tubers" lol...it's basically no different to that.
