I've never liked Crises - the title track is okay, and I can't stand the rest of the songs.

What do you think of Discovery then, Mikes one and only attempt at a Jazz album

The title track IS Crises - and in my opinon one of Mike's best!

Simon Phillips awesome drum sounds on Crises...very powerful.

I think Crises as an album has its moments.....in High Places was a little odd, Moonlight Shadow and Foreign affair up there with the best of Mikes singles....shadow on the wall was awful in my opinion, it didnt appeal to me at any level.

The final synthe chords of "Crises" are so great I wish they would last for ever (btw I made a loop of it!;).

:D

It's amazing, I agree with you!!!

What about it at the end of 'Execution', in 'The Killing Fields'?? It is quite similar... even more intriguing!!!

yes, you can hear crises-like sounds, but for me it does not surpass the end of Crises...

I'll always love CRISES. Today my favorite Albums are the ones from 1973 - 1978, but Five Miles Out and Crises made me an Oldfield fan back then. Especially Crises was sounding so new and fresh to this 16 years old boy back then. I think it were the innovative sounds mixed with the relaxed and easy songwriting that fascinated me. The young man here was thrilled for months. I dreamed of playing drums but had to learn piano. I didn't get a drumkit but somebody gave me a pair of drumsticks so I arranged some smaller and bigger cushions on my bed and bashed the sh*t out of them while listening to the finale of Crises' title track.    ... those were the days.

Experiences like these make you still love certain albums decades later because they were the soundtrack of your life back then and you carry them always in your heart.

Today my favorite Oldfield albums are others but I still think he made a very good job with Crises, it has many interesting moments and it still sounds very good and somehow timeless.

'Five Miles Out', 'Crises', 'Discovery' and 'Islands' are for me examples of the same thing: one amazing long instrumental, and four or five great songs. In each case the instrumental is by far the best track.

Crises? What Crises! The instrumental side is over rated (even though Simon Philips plays exceptional drums on the track) but the songs are superb! Side two is where the action is on this LP!
