Issue 15 (May 2010) of Classic Rock presents... Prog has a half page review of the reissues of Hergest Ridge and Ommadawn.

Comments on the new mixes include "as lucid and warm as you might imagine" for Hergest Ridge.

Thanks, Tati

Are you sure it is issue 15?
The link is showing issue 8 with an Giger's artwork on the cover.

If you consider all special editions that Classic Rock magazine which were 100% prog, you can consider the new issue as issue 15. But the current issue that has HR/Ommadawn review is considered as issue 8 of Classic Rock Presents Prog,as a separated magazine from Classic Rock  ;)

Yep, Giger on the cover.

Note the review is mostly about the albums generally, background etc. Only a few sentences about material specific to the reissues. Fairly positive sentences mind you!

On the july issue of Classic Rock magazine (in stores now),there's a huge poster about the 50 albums that built prog rock and Tubular Bells is there:

Quote
Recorded by then 20-year-oldfield Oldfield, who played all the numerous instruments himself, Tubular Bells is a truly remarkable piece of work. It's classical by nature, but imbued with a broad range of styles. Former Pallas singer Alan Reed says of the vast scope of music on display on this landmark record: "Oldfield always appealed to my inner folkie." Without Tubular Bells, Virgin Records might still be a couple of rooms in a house in Notting Hill.

Just seen it at my local WH Smith...on the current issue of Classic Rock with Dio on the cover, there's a good rewiew on both HR and Ommadawn...and according to the next cover of Classic Rock presents Prog(also shown on the same mag),Mike's name appears on it...seems that it would be an interview about the reissues!

Is there a full page about HR and Ommadawn or just a small article?
:)

It is as the same size as Classic Rock presents Prog issue 15,with that pic of Mike with the bells behind him. Couldn't read in full, since the store was closing.

Mojo and Uncut magazines both gave the reissues really positive reviews.  The man is finally being reappraised by the critics.

There's also a photo spread in Uncut with Mike talking about his life in pictures.

Thanks

It's a very small Ommadawn review really...

Yeah, Uncut's more worth having.  Plus you'll see my name on page 37 saying positive things about Phil Ochs, which is a nice bonus.

Classic Rock Presents Prog :Interviews with Hawkwind, Mike Oldfield, Transatlantic, Opeth, Steve Hackett, The Reasoning, Marillion, Pendragon, Touchstone, Asia, Argent, ELP, Dweezil Zappa... We could go on...

Let's see what's going to be...have to wait 'til tommorow morning, when I can buy the mag!
