Any one else think there's a match beig struck and ciggy lighted aroun 17:00? It would follow the glass of water/spoon clinking on cup (of tea?) and yawn, and comes just before cleaning teeth. Only thing Mike didn't put in was opening some chocolate hobnobs biscuits.

The answer is 42 - but what is the question?

I think you're absolutely right. The dead giveaway is the exhale at 16:56, which now that you've mentioned it sounds to me exactly like someone exhaling the initial puff of smoke from a cigarette.

[Edit] I'm not sure about the match. It could be a cigarette lighter. ;)

Cool! I spotted a few other sound effects. Not having Amarok to hand I can't give you timings

Near the beginning of 'Soft bodhran 1' there is a motorbike engine zooming off

In the 'Scot' section there is the noise of a saw on a block of wood

there are probably others, but I only remember these two

What Mike uses is in fact one of these - an electric sitar-guitar (Mike's is one of the original Coral models rather than a Jerry Jones replica). They were designed during the 1960s to allow guitarists to have easy access to the then popular sound of the sitar, without having to learn a new instrument.

He plays it on 'Four Winds' as well, and at the beginning of Flying Start.

Has Mike ever played a real sitar?

Not to my knowledge - so, at least, not on record!
