OK, all you guitar fanciers: what is the guitar used on that marvelous solo in "Celt"? Whatever it is, that should be the guitar to be showcased on any new album!

My guess: Gibson SG Les Paul Junior ca. 1962/63, possibly played through a guitar synthesizer (Gibsynth).

It's either the SG/Les Paul or more likely the L6S.Probably played through his MKII Boogie.The Gibsynth was a few years later.

Mike didn´t pick up on the L6-S since 1980, so it´s probably the SG Junior.

Could be but he did use it on the Knebworth gig in July 1980 and on a couple of TV apearances form the same year.Not sure when QE2 was actually recorded.

You're right, the L6-S is also a possibility. It seems to have been used during the recording process, as well as the Telecaster.

To be fair i've been running the solo over and over in my head and it does sound like the L6S and not like the SG.It's got that sort of sharp tonality to it in the highs.The highs on the SG are a little softer sounding to my ears.

I think Mike continued to use the Gibson L6-S for distortion work on parts of Crises (title track from Crises), Poison Arrows (From Discovery), Pictures In The Dark and most of the Islands album.  IMHO it was the Amber PRS Custom 24 that replaced the L6-S for distortion work starting with Earth Moving.
