Wow, how did you manage to get so close to Througham Slad? I thought it was a private house. Or were you sneakily trespassing...

The house is right by a public road

https://www.google.co.uk/maps....#33;1e3

The barn (which was the studio) is the long building down and left (i.e. south east) of the tree right in the middle of this.

I recommend the trip if you are ever in the area, let me know and I'll send you some tips!

I'd like to revise my estimate as to where the photo of Mike with the glider was taken. My current estimate is here:

I'll be at the Oxford Arms event on the 25th. Very interested to hear about their adventures / misadventures.

shenry the views from Bradnor Hill are extraordinary. There can't be many places in the UK with better views.

Whilst I appreciate that Mike spent much time on Hergest Ridge, and love it, Bradnor Hill was his home and playground. Bradnor is clearly such an important chapter in his life, that any pilgrimage must include it. That's the simple point that I was making.

meanwhile, back on topic...

Les Penning in this articles refers to "heavily curtained windows"...not proof either way but you would have thought Mike would have kept them shut during recording?

In other news I've just got a few boxes of my CDs out of storage...if I can find my copy of the "Lost version" I'll run it through my Gefilter and see if I can hear anything...

Ok back on topic. 1970s thick curtains are an irrelevance. Ask any sound engineer.

What's surprising is that you can't hear any sheep on the album.

I have no doubt that it's possible that the sound of birds could have been picked up, particularly around the dawn chorus. Whether they were or not, I've no idea. But from a purely scientific perspective, there's no doubt that they could've been.

Slightly off topic. Are you sure there's no background bleating on Ommadawn?

I've had a very close listen - if I run it through the Gefilter with the double flange on the oojamaflip setting and phaser set to stun I can *just* about pick up some bleating in the background...see if you think the same:

Haha

I will make it my life's mission to find the sound of a sheep on Ommadawn.

Ommadawn 45 was in town this weekend. We had Les Penning, Robert Reed, some of the members of Tubular Tribute and many fans visit. My highlight was this from Ruben Alvarez Alvarez:

Very kind of you to invite people back to the Beacon to see it. I saw the posts on Facebook. Wish I could have been there!
