Man In The Rain for me. And Outcast a fair 2nd. I almost never listen to TBIII because it has such an angry feel to it. It is also the only album of which I don't like the vocals. TOTM as nightspore said, the piano part, sounds like Chopin. When I first listened to it, I immediately thought of Chopin. However Chopin sounds very pretentious to me. As did TOTM to me. But I do like the end of TOTM where another instrument kicks in (I have no clue what it is).

I think the album isn't really a TB album. But the album does deserve a strong name, so maybe it was a good idea after all. The secret tunes are quite boring to me.

I agree on that..
maybe Crises ll?

To quote my failed post, "God, do I have to be the one to welcome you?" To which I now add "God, why am I reincarnating Father Ted?" I'm not sure I feel senior enough to roll out the red carpet, but now Nightspore has set the ball rolling I'm more than happy to give it a hoover and say a hearty hello to MrFileshare.

Meanwhile having decided to vote (which did work) I've improved Moonwatch's standing for a while. If anyone from page one is reading, there's a clip of mike playing TOTM on guitar which I remember preferring. Turning up the volume for Secrets/FATC is one of life's little pleasures and there's no part of it I hate. There's just something about this simple little song - so typically side 2 Mike - that I love its deceptive subtlety. Cross-time piano. The best use of the Eye. And the last guitar solo fading in...
*sigh* Happy now!

There is that, Nightspore!

But hold on a cotton-pickin' moment! I sincerely hope this is of of the forums that Mike never gets to see. I fear his wrath. "All that work! And in five and a half years not only does noone mention it, but nobody spots that The Watchful Eye isn't even up there! Arse! Feck! Girls! Drink!"

Hah - nice pick.

Guess it's not top of anyone's list.

I'm very fond of it, actually. I assumed that the survey had been set up so long ago that it was pointless drawing attention to the missing piece.

Oy... walked right into that one. I'm a real charidee case.

The penny dropped a few hours after and I was so close to editing or trying to delete. Bad precedent so I decided to take my medicine. Then I started thinking I might be getting away with it. Maybe noone would ever vote in TBIII ever again! Ah well. Maybe I'll start putting Smashie and Nicey quotes in my signature. Right? Okay! Bachman Turner Overdrive ahoy - You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet. Let's rock!

Top Of The Morning is the only one I can really listen to, but it still bothers me with its "soundtrack for a sad Hollywood drama movie where a guy dies of cancer" piano chords in the chorus.

Can't really believe you would say such a thing about such beautifull music. You'd critisize a sunrise as not very original. :)

I kind of wonder what do you like? Can you list all the albums you think are good? I wonder if we get a pattern...

"Far Above the Clouds", by a long way! Outcast is very good too.

"Top of the Morning" is a perfect piece of music!
(I fear that I have said or will say this for all his songs. But, believe me, this is not my fault. Every so often, unexpectedly, I feel it for one or another of his songs. I am a poor victim of Mike's music and the best I can do is surrender. :( )

Yes, "Top of the Morning" is a favourite of mine as well, along with "Moonwatch". TB III was of course a big departure formally from its predecessors (eg, in that it contained a song); it's interesting to speculate whether TB IV, TB V, TB VI, and TB VII would diverge even more.
