This one makes me want to do those robotic jerky body moves - and huff and puff facial expressions -

@ TOBY: well, the original "Go West" was a dance tune, wasn't it? So why shouldn't a cover of it be a dance tune? :) After all, PSB have often been on the border between pop and dance.

I suppose that's true. They modelled themselves hugely on New Order and New Order were most definitely an embryonic dance act. A lot of people would classify Pet Shop Boys as a pop band though.

@ Olivier: oh, now I got that. Springs meant as coils. Well, may I be allowed to disagree? :) I never perceived EtS as a song which makes anyone jump. On the contrary, I've always perceived it as a very profound and meaningful song. And of course the arms-waving stuff in NLMDA is something that actually happens only in live shows, I don't think it has anything at all to do with the song itself.

I love this track, love these three singers.
This is from 1977, I remember it well, so I guess that make's me old.
In a vain we would call rare groove not disco.

@ milamber: if the PSB ain't dance, would you say Moroder is? :) Maybe his work with Donna Summer was - everything else he did is just rather cheap technopop (IMHO).

@ TOBY: you're right, the PSB themselves said that their music is pop that you can dance to and that they've always considered themselves a pop act. But you cannot deny that (1) a lot of the rhythm tracks they use come straight from the world of dance music; (2) some of the world's best dance remixers have done great remixes of their songs; and (3) of course they worked with great dance producers even on original versions of their songs. So they may not be strictly a dance act, but they've undoubtly got lots of connections with the dance world. And "Go West", in my view, still remains a dance anthem, whoever sings it. :)

Yup you're spot on with all of that Ugo. I wouldn't deny any of it (except perhaps Go West is a pop anthem to my ears rather a dance one, but that's splitting hairs)

While I'm here, its sad day for dance music as Groove Armada are calling it a day. In all my years of seeing pretty much all of the major dance acts live they were without a doubt the best live dance act I ever saw. They certainly brought the highest level of musicianship to live dance music and were streets ahead of their peers like Basement Jaxx and Faithless (the latter of which they actually shared a similar live line up of musicians for a time) They'll be missed. And their connection to our old friend Mike Oldfield is that Andy Cato of GA bought Mike's huge studio monitor speakers from him when Mike sold all his gear off. True story.

I'm fond of "Go West" (at least, the PSB's version, not the silly one by the Village People, with their Huey, Dewey and Louie way of completing the vocal line). It has a strangely wistful feel for a dance piece.
