I chose "never listened to him", but I've heard a few tracks and quite liked them.

What album would you recommend for a Glass newbie?

Yes I really like Philip Glass's music, and he has really matured to become the most recognised serious musician of his generation (imo!;). His music permeates advertising, opera, and cinema, and his output, like Mike's is immense. He's a good pianist too, and an innovator. Mike has some things in common with this, and if Mike's musical powers as a player diminish with age then the brain does not, and the capacity to compose remains. Philip Glass is stronger than ever and over 70...

...that said, his music will simply never be for all. He knows that, his profile DVD simply says, don't like it? listen to somebody else.

Its very difficult to recommend his work I think. Almost anything is typical, he's very much a taste, and it will need some work if you're not an instant fan when you hear it. The Photographer is an older one but has two shorter tracks, the violin concertos are good, short and accessible; there are several collections now too, those give you snippets of lots of his work and maybe the best starting place. I lent mine and it never came back...
