Before a while I found this.

Mike Oldfield: Every Album, Every Song by Ryan Yard.

Any Oldfield-related activity is welcome in principle, I think.

That's a good find. Ryan Yard is known around here, he transcribed Amarok for a piano and bass live performance so he knows what he is taking about,  should be a good read.

Excellent, I love this sort of thing! On order, but a little puzzled as to why it is paperback only, how come not Kindle (or other e-book of your choice)?

Didn't Ryan use to hang out on this forum, as This Name or something?

I've just heard from Amazon that the release of the book has been delayed till September...disappointing as it was high on my summer holiday reading list!

I wonder if it's musical scores or a reader's guide or both...

If it's scores I hope he clears it with Mike Oldfield's publishing company this time - that's literally what music publishers were originally there for.

I hope it would clear up the question of what the lyrics to "Resolution" are. On the other hand if Mike really did want them to be ambiguous, would he be happy to say what they finally are?

The book seems really comprehensive, even though I don't agree with many of the opinions expressed in it!

There's a review here: https://theafterword.co.uk/on-trac....ry-song

Thanks for the kind and fair review.

It’s always hard to share the same opinion on such a wide and vast musical output but hopefully it opens up discussion!

I’m thrilled to see you discovered the cor anglais as the Hergest ridge solo. They both have similar tones but the cor is infinitely richer and seductive.

Btw I was aiming for factual rather than pretentious

speaking as a writer i have to say

1 - paperback means you actually have to buy a copy, meaning it is not easily copy-and-shareable. (ever notice how many oldfield youtube downloads have a timed kill switch?)

2 - it feels wonderful to hold a book in one's hands. one can make notes in the margins. one can add little slips of paper to mark particular passage locations,

3 - it doesn't give one eye strain as a screen might do.
