Are there things in your everyday life that make you think "Oh, Amarok!"? I was recently given a gift, and I had to chuckle because it triggered that very reaction.

Bizarrely, images of vast landscapes often get Amarok pinging into my head. I think it might be because when I was first listening to it I spent a weeks holiday in the Scottish Highlands which involved lots of driving around with Amarok continuously playing....

Whenever I drop a glass on the floor I think of Amarok.

Although I try not to do this too often.

I was brushing my teeth in a rather musical fashion the other day and that reminded me of Amarok.  So much so that I decided to stamp around the bathroom in an Amarok-y fashion(my shoes on the tiles make a rather nice noise).  And then I spent the next 15mins wondering if that made me a little bit sad....

There are two things that I've more-or-less consciously associate with the album:

1) Harvest Moon, for the SNES - I used to play that game by the time I got into the album;
2) Orange-tinted clouds in the sunset, because of a roadtrip when this memorable combination between sight and music happened.

One of the so-called "Guitar improvisations" on the Sallyangie CotS bonus disc, "Branches", features several ideas that, 32 years later, would be featured on Amarok, so obviously I think about Amarok every time I hear that piece. :D And I'm still amazed at the way Mike re-used his old ideas after such a looooooooooong time... :)

Douglas Adams' computer game Starship Titanic always reminds me of Amarok, the music itself reminds me of Mike, but the overall game reminds me of this album. Dunno why, and very few people out there seem to have the game to pass judgement. In fact, lots of Douglas' works remind me of Mike, and I really don't know why. Perhaps because they each have such a unique way of seeing things and presenting them to others.

OK, let me think.

- When I'm lying on the grass in a swimming pool.
- Sunny landscapes with palms.
- A highway in the sunset (like Sir Mustapha).
- Strange mythological masks.

I have to questions to make, as well:

Clotty, are you a waiter-waitress??
Sweetpea, what was the gift??

By the way, very good thread this one.

Have thought of another one.

When someone says "Happy?" to me, I can't help thinking of the strangely pronounced "Happy" in Amarok. In fact sometimes I forget myself and say it out loud, which normally gets me a quizzical look in return.

As long as you don't go round accusing people of being cloth eared nincompoops or quoting from the Thatcher speech and breaking into an impromptu tap dance routine i think you'll be fine clotty mate.

"isn't that charming?D'you know i really feel i could dance!"
