Where can I find the "lyrics" for Altered State?

That's interesting - I always understood the 'Kin Ke-Se' part as 'He can't say'... always interpreted the song as an overzealous rock singer going nuts and garbling all his lyrics. Mind you, that interpretation is influenced by the live Edinborough concert. Which was great, btw... I'd loved to have been there.

Well what do you know... I had another listen and it isn't 'He can't say' after all, it's the aforementioned sounds although perhaps more of a 'Ki ka se' than a 'Kin ke se' (not that that changes much, I guess).

What I am wondering about is this: is this indeed nonsense or is it some other language?

It is pure nonsense. :) Check out what I think is a more accurate transcription here [the second post on the page has "ALTERED STATE" on top ;)].

It's very strange but it seems like people can hear what they want to hear. I always used to think it sounded like "Who cares if, he cares if" followed by "I care, I care"

But I can not for the life of me hear "Who's Gonna Get Your Virgil" and "Who's Gonna Get Your Home".

Just a side note: the official TBII sheet music says "Kin-ke-se, key-ke-se". And "Kinkése, Keykesé" is what I heard the very first time that I heard the piece, during the Edimburgh concert. That and nothing else :). Strangely, the two words sound vaguely like some Abruzzo dialect expressions which respectively mean "Who are you with?" and "Who's there?" (as when someone knocks at the door). And some fan from East Europe (I don't remember his exact name/nick) quoted in another topic the phrase 'kik ezek", meaning "Who are you" in his own language. :)

"Are you dead Mummy" is incorrect, it is actually "Are you dad's Mummy?"  If you listen you can clearly hear the word ends in an S.

I think that's just a very, very English (London-ish) D, viz. "Are you deaDDDD, mummy?" :D It almost sounds like 'dad's' because she puts a lot of emphasis on that D, but I think it's indeed 'dead'. That's what the sheet music also writes. :)

It seems that the link in my first post on this topic (fifth from the top) is gone from tubular.net. However, I found again that particular transcription somewhere else on the Web... I think it's worth checkin' it out!

Hwooooooooooooooo-oh!
Wooooooooooooooooooh!
Hwoooooooooooooooooh!

P.S. All I did to find this was a Google search for "hrr doe".

@ David (Gandalph): I think that your "I care" is another very typical RP-English-Londonism. :) If you stress the H on 'hair' just a little more than usual, as I've heard Londoners do, "I-yee hair" does definitely sound like "I care". :D

The first question certainly sounds like 'Who's dead Mummy?' but I must admit I always thought the voice said 'Are you Dad's mummy?' at about 28 seconds in but that was because I felt it was a conversation between a mother & a small child. The kind of questions that get asked that make perfect sense to the child but to an adult, although appearing logical, are amusing and difficult to answer. The ones I've had asked of me...What is an appetite...do my blood cells have birthdays...why has Daddy got long legs... you know the kind of thing. Did Mike have small cildren around at that time?

But then I suppose that idea doesn't really tie in with the title Altered State?

Been listening to this, - unless it's coming from Mike himself, I can't believe the official lyrics are - "who's gonna get your virgil"? - "virgil" ??

Sounds nothing like "virgil" to me, and besides, I HEAR an English dialogue going on (in those 1st ten lines) - and "Virgil" has no literal or sounding meaning.

I agree - "Are you dead mummy" is incorrect.

Sounds like "Are you dat mummy". (A child would say "dat" instead of "that").

Ok, what some hear as, "Who's gonna get your virgil" - I hear as - "How the f*** would I know".

It makes sense in context of the dialogue, and humour -

"Where's your mummy
Where's she gone
How the f*** wouldIknOW
Why's that funny
Don't know honey...."
