Anyway, it's strange that you wouldn't even acknowledge Return to Ommadawn...

I think that whooshing sound is the self-deprecatory irony in my post going over your head...which I shall pass by, other than the reference to "Return to Ommadawn". I listened to it once, it's a passable pastiche but no more, and sounds more like one of those Youtube bedroom musicians who have discovered a few "ethnic" patches on their soft synths and some "Celtic" scales on their guitar...I should know because I tried it once and threw away the result in disgust!

Return to Ommadawn is arguably superior to even Ommadawn, Hergest Ridge, and Tubular Bells (and Incantations), as outstanding as those works are.  In many ways, it is Mike's greatest, grandest album of all, the most complete & quintessential musical statement, which is fitting, since it was his last - the supreme culmination of every triumph (and struggle) that came before - a full 50 years of releasing music, five whole decades, if we go all the way back to The Sallyangie (actually 49...close enough).

It is more complex, more intricate, more inspired, more glorious, more flawless, heartfelt, emotional, tender, thrilling, captivating, sweeping, uplifting, intense, deep, moving, emotional, intimate, dazzling, urgent, disarming and compelling, dense with melody and detail, perfect in conception and realization, structure, texture, instrumentation, with unparalleled beauty of performance and production - pure musical genius beyond possibly even any of his other creations.  It is, I would say, easily the finest album of this century (in fact, millennium) by anyone (with the only possible exception being Music of the Spheres)-and that goes across all genres.  There is absolutely nothing else quite like it.

The fact that you actually, seriously compare your own disposable "composition" to the work of the true, beloved maestro - seriously suggesting that Return to Ommadawn is on the same level as whatever self-described garbage you once produced (since you said you "threw it away", that makes it by definition rubbish), and claiming on that basis that "I should know" when you clearly don't have any understanding or insight in this regard - rather, the complete opposite - is completely delusional.

"Yeah, but I listened to it once, so I should know"

In that case, it might be interesting to survey fans and ask them their reaction after only one listen to Amarok, Tubular Bells, Incantations, etc.  Speaking for myself, the very first time I ever heard Tubular Bells, I wasn't impressed one bit, especially by the second side and Piltdown Man, and I thought Amarok was truly terrible.  Needless to say, these hasty and premature assessments were completely mistaken.  I fancy that millions of people have very similar experiences.

I have frequented this message board for 20 years, and your pompous, condescending attitude has taken all the fun out of it, so I don't visit as often these days. You are truly an asshole.

Incantations in Tier 3 and Ommadawn and Hergest Ridge in Tier 2?...I feel a John McEnroe moment coming on...

Those are all first class!
