I love the artwork on the cover.
I think it captures Mike's story very well.

Mike Oldfield, the guitar castaway, living on his island.

On the ceiling of the cave you can spot the same hands
that were "waving" in the sea on the cover of the 1987 Islands album.
I don't think that's a coincidence.

Mike Oldfield, the rock caveman (remember Tubular Bells)
looking down from his cave to the 1973 Tubular Bells seashore.

What's changed is the water itself.
On the 2014 Man on the Rocks it's crystal clear,
polished and well-balanced like the sound of his music.
You can almost taste Mike's cockail under the palm trees.

In 1973 the seashore was rough and powerful.
You could feel the wind blow, smell the salt and hear the seagulls.
His music was authentic, edgy and anything but polished.

You see, the Man on the Rocks album cover sums it all up.

Actually, I thought the cave looked rather similar to Robin Hood cave at Stanage Edge - not the view of course ;) but the shape of the cave itself :D

Hate to say it, but I think the MotR cover is the dullest there has been... Well.. maybe L&S wasn't much better.

I love the brightness of the blue sea and sky which draws you into the picture, then when looking at it close up there is all the detail of the hands on the darker part of the cave. Brilliant.

I personally think its one of his best covers.
