I'm really annoyed that I can't figure out if the opening 4 minutes are based around F#minor or G minor. When you play along it is closer to F# but at 4.10 there is a harmonic shift down a semitone into F#!!!! Mega confusing so please, if anybody can help me out then that would be great!

Cheers!

It's definitely G minor.

How do you explain it as Gminor when it sounds closer to F#? I thought it had to be Gminor too. Why do you suppose this part of the piece is so badly out of tune? Is it a recording issue or just the type of intsrtuemts that are being used?

It's really unusual.

Thanks though for your input, bit of a head scratcher. Its for my 6000 word critique of ommadawn the album.

Is it me or the tuning of the album is not standard (something like a quarter of step up or done) ?

I'm listening to it right now. I dunno, it sounds pretty "standard" G minor to me. Of course, compared to other songs in G minor, it can sound drastically out of tune. Perhaps it was an issue due to recording the album. But yes, it's G minor.
