i know that one has to be interested in pursuing a particular course, but i can't help feeling that england missed an opportunity to nourish mike oldfield's musical talents.

while he has produced quite a lot of "pop" "new age" "world music" take any 5 more labels, etc ad nauseam, he has defied categorization and clearly has more formal muscles that he periodically flexes. i wonder what he might have produced if he had been bolstered in more formal musical structures.

well, he's still a young(ish), er, let's say instead, mature man, not yet joining us in our decrepitude, so there's hope.
