There has been quite a bit of discussion on who you'd like to hear MCing on the Finale of Tubular Bells Part One, well I've got an idea

While scouring the web for Mike Oldfield rareties I came across an instrumental only version of 'The Bell' (a shortened one that was used for the video with Viv Stanshall). Why not record your own MC track over this and send it in? I could host the instrumental file somewhere so that everyone can download it and have a go - prizes for the most novel!

Let me know what you think

Definitely agree! :D

Do you remember where you got that instrumental version so I can find it myself?

I got it in the HUGE 1.09Gb archive of so-called rareties on eMule. I'll put it on my webspace and post another link in a tick...

OK. I've uploaded it now:

The Bell (Instrumental Version) - ogg

for those of you with tin boxes:

The Bell (Instrumental Version) - mp3

The instruments are: Grand Piano, Reed and Pipe Organ, Bass Guitar, Vocal Cords, Two Slightly Sampled Electric Guitars and Tubular Bells

I look foward to hearing your mixes!

How about a Hungarian version? :D

I made it more than a year ago, so my voice might have changed since then. ;)

The Bell (MC EeToN - Hungarian Version)

I'm eager to hear anyone else's interpretation. :)

heard your track - cool!

The editted version of The Bell does tend to grate a bit. It's those drums! Bah - why do 'they' think drums equal sellability? I don't like that digital sound processor coming in early either

Yep, the drums are a kind of a bummer.

BTW, I'm having all sorts of ideas for the MCing. The first idea will feature me going totally lost on the job, commiting mistakes and sounding like a complete idiot - my total lack of talent with self-deprecative humour. ;) I've also been thinking of a Piltdown MC. Might sound fun!

... Can anybody out there make a good immitation of Lisa Simpson? Anyone? :/ :D

I actually don't think I could participate in this...But I thought I will help a way :)
So I went and remastered the original mp3 file, this one has fuller sound and better volume...actually it's more "punchy"
get it here http://prolinani.host.sk/Bell.mp3
and have fun :)

thanks BOOsTER. Your server where you're hosting it should be more reliable than my one

On another note, what happened to your one that the Crises project demos are on? I'd like to listen to what you've done as a group on that so far, but the links don't work

No problem...hopefully the server will "stay reliable" for some time :)
did you like the new mix?

The demos of crises project are up (you just have to delete the "www" in URL, since my hosting provider changed it)

Gee, thanks, BOOsTER. Now, I'll have to download the track again.

Just kidding, of course! :D I want to check out how it sounds like now - good or Godlike.

I know, but that must make some difference. You can't go wrong with da Boosta Man. ;)

This is a bit tougher than I'd thought. I guess the song was mixed without intending to have a voice, so it's a bit hard to mix the voice making it stand out sufficiently without clipping, especially in the end, with the really loud guitars... I still need to study the possibilities a little, but I've managed to record a little "test" using the version James supplied us (I'll use yours nest week, BOOsTER, couldn't download it yet). It's just a "no frills" MCing using my normal voice and all. I'll put it here tomorrow. :)

you can use a compressor to make it going up to only say...
-4db, and the same on the voice, when you have it ready you mix it up and apply a volume maximizer on master ;) that should make the voice stand out
