The pounding rhythmic synth/bass type beat driving much of "The Lake' from the Discovery album (starting around 2:24) is distinctly reminscent of the same thing from "Waterfront"...Discovery came out around 5 months after Sparkle in the Rain. Could Mike have been inspired by the sound of the Simple Minds song?

More likely that he "ghost wrote" it for them!
