What the ...? A great interview by Mike, but the version of Tubular Bells Part 1 (finale) they played certainly wasn't Mike's version! It sounded like a cover version!!

I will upload the show in about half an hour.

I just heard it - around 45 minutes into the show. Live telephone conversation from a marina in Fort Lauderdale.

Talking about TB 2009: - Mike said it wasn't a re-master or remix, but stripped down from the original into a new "renovation" and "new perspective."

As the interview terminated Johnnie, joking about Mike's life living on his boat, said - "it's a hard life." And Mike said, "it has been, but it's got a lot better recently."    :)

(Yes, that sample didn't sound like the 2009 version - or any other version) :/

Thanks for that HuanCry! :) This is outrageous, to play a cover version and calling it Mike Oldfield.

For the people who haven't heard it or they want to keep it, here's the interview in 256 kbps MP3 format:

Great interview, MO sounded very relaxed and upbeat. But what was that version of TB they were playing?!  :O  Bizarre!

Thanks Blue Dolphin for sharing the audio with us.

Mike's quite relaxed and enjoying life,he deserves it so much after all those years.Enjoyed to hear it.

About the TB version they played, soo bizarre and strange.Better listen to the original asap!

I never realised Viv Stanshall was at The Manor with the Bonzos when Mike first met up with him.I`d always assumed because the last Bonzos album was released in 72 that his Tubular Bells appearence came afterwards.I guess it just goes to show how long TB part one did sit around in "the vaults" before it`s release.A whole year later in fact as quoted in the interview.

"Vivian Stanshall...Oxfordshire..1973"..Mmm maybe that bit was done a little later I guess?

All fans of Viv`s narrative on Mike`s Drunken Hornpipe track, should check out the first of his many trips to Rawlinson End As featured on that final Bonzo`s album I mentioned there Let`s Make Up And Be Friendly.

At the end he simply said "That was Tubular Bells *by Mike Oldfield*" That could mean anything. It might have been a cover by an up and comer played for royalty reasons. Or a cover made a few years ago that no one cared about. Nice interview to wake up to on Sunday afternoon. Thanks for that.

It was a lovely interview to listen to indeed, hearing Mike sounding very content...more than ever I feel...perhaps he has now found what he was searching for all those years...I hope so.

But, my goodness, whatever are the BBC doing playing that version ? Un - bel - ievable  !!! ( That wasn't inteneded as a pun, but can be taken as so ) I could not believe my ears ! Is it because they cannot afford what the record company would charge to play the proper one ? ( I thought the BBC belonged to it's listeners - or so they keep telling us - in which case we'd like some authenticity please. To interview someone like Mike and then play a cover? Come on, how stupid do they think we are? Would they do that to Mick Jagger, or Bono, or Bob Dylan...I don't think so, which makes me think it's down to ignorance...someone not reading labels on screens/ discs properly.

a bit disappointing really..though it is a sign of the times I guess..
:/
