Got a bit sad today, thinking about it again...somehow the cold felt colder...

I'd love to read the article if you do get a chance to scan it.

Sad? Is it that depressing an article or is it just the c**p weather at the moment!

Well, England's notoriously rubbish weather is one thing Mike talks about...and he's right... :/
I was also sad to hear about him leaving the country in the first place...

I'll go scan it now. :)

Thanks Jo !!! this is a sad article for those that can't escape.
sunshine is now reserved to rich people but beware the
burns! I know too much this "shroud of clouds" that is terribly
depressing, it's covering the northern Europe for years and
it's not casual. Living in France, I would have done the same
move but firstly because of political matters, globalization
having breeded worldwide the same kind of shitty politics so
eager to dump our liberties.......

Thanks for the scans!

Mike is sounding contented but it doesn't sound like any new albums are imminent. In fact, the way he is speaking MOTS could be his last! But this is Mike so things may well change, maybe he'll find some new inspiration sitting in the bay listening to the waves lapping at the boat.

Actually for a little while, I had been sensing if Mr Oldfield was due to retire. And he has had a long career. But lets hope i'm wrong.

I've read the article...quite interesting really. My fav part was regarding the day he took 5 hours to return home because of the rain,it reminded me here in Sao Paulo, where you can have big big big traffic jams - especially on raining days(and it drives me nuts). And sometimes during holidays, the traffic jams are there too,as well as when I go to some parties here :O

Mike does care with the way he lives, with quality and not getting too stressed. He can afford to it,and I try to do my best here,if you don't,you can get mad!

It feels like the musician Mike Oldfield is now in standby mode on and Michael Gordon Oldfield is there 100% of the time

Yeah, I think I agree with that. Mike needs his move and his rest and his peace and the new environment for family etc. etc. but making music seems to be something deeply ingrained in him so I suspect he'll have a *need* to make some music at some point. Here's hoping anyway!

I think this is the way Mike feels usually depressed after he delivers a big album or a bunch of albums. Like the way he felt a bit "empty", tired and depressed after HR, TSODE or after TB3/Gits/TMB.

It seems that with years going on, it takes each time longer before he is able to perform music again...

Anyway, I'm afraid to think that this "again" will certainly mean only a couple of albums before his definitive retirement...

I think that the caption under Mike's photo is particularily nice... "Mike is enjoying life in Majorca without the pressure of having to create music". Nah, there isn't any talk of retirement IMHO. He's just resting. He's "enjoying life". He is recharging his batteries (physically and mentally). And I don'ìt think worry about him making new music in the future. I'm sure he'll make a lot of it. Maybe it won't be all out-and-out hard rock with distorted, screamin' guitars;  maybe he'll create totally electronic stuff (or maybe no, he won't... he's a guitarist!! :D); maybe he'll make another Tr3s Lunas; maybe (as other composers have done before him) he'll move permanently into the classical/orchestral field. But to me there isn't any doubt that we are going to hear new music from Mike in the future. Lots of it. :)
