I thoroughly enjoy this forum and was wondering - if you were stranded on an island, what 10 albums/CDs would you like to have with you? Of course most of us would want one or two Mike Oldfield's, but I thought it'd be interesting to see everyone's musical taste.

My Top 10 would include (in no particular order):

1.  Hergest Ridge - Mike Oldfield
2.  Tangram - Tangerine Dream
3.  Oxygene - Jean Michel Jarre
4.  Tubular Bells - Mike Oldfield
5.  Ziggy Stardust - David Bowie
6.  Force Majeure - Tangerine Dream
7.  RadioActivity - Kraftwerk
8.  Timewind - Klaus Schulze
9.  Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd
10. Year Of The Cat - Al Stewart

Couldn't live without:
1) Mike Oldfield - Amarok
2) Jon & Vangelis - Friends of Mr Cairo
3) Dougie Maclean - Craigie Dhu
4) Mike Oldfield - Hergest Ridge
5) Simon & Garfunkel - Bridge over troubled water

If I had 5 spaces left for taking to the desert island:
6) ELO - Out of the Blue
7) Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the moon
8) 10,000 Mainacs - In my Tribe
9) Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel - Make me Smile
10) U2 - Joshua Tree

HRFan, there was a related thread a while back here which you might want to have a look at. It excluded Mikes albums and didn't involve a desert island mind you!

7)Rumours-Fleetwood Mac

I remember seeing an amusing sketch on Who Dares Wins where the police pull over someone and check his cassette tapes. When they find a Fleetwood Mac they proceed to arrest him. Later, the cassette proves to be "the early stuff" and he's let off!

I always thought "Future Days" was FM's best album.

Ten albums, this is a stretch! TB 2@3 definitely, Fleetwood mac, Rumours, Inshala, Eskimo Joe, Pink Floyd, Best of, Elements, Incantations, Guitars and Five Miles Out. I forgot the most easy listening album of all MOTS! That album should keep the heeby jeebies at bay while waiting for a rescue eh! Until the batteries run out on the player. Note to self: remember to pack lots of batteries lol!

A cool thread. A hard question too as a lot won't be MO. In no particular order of preference, but I would die without(water and food and sharks/snakes excluded)

1. Genesis-Trick of the Tail
2. MO-Hergest Ridge, No remix, my Porky cut version
3. Renaissance-Novella
4. Steely Dan-(I could say the "Citizen Steely Dan box set which is all their albums to 1980, but I would be cheating, yes?) so I guess Steely Dan "The Royal Scam" in this slot.
5. Roxy Music-Flesh+Blood
6. America-Holiday
7. MO-Discovery
8. David Gilmour at The Royal Albert Hall(kind of cheating here since I get PF all the way back to Echoes and Arnold Layne plus material up to and including "On an Island") but if that is cheating, insert PF-Animals
9. Moody Blues-Seventh Sojourn(wish I could have picked the "Time Traveller" box set, but that's cheating)
10. Alan Parsons Project-The Turn of a Friendly Card
Jim

My fav. Genesis era (sorry if it pisses off some) was not the Gabriel years(although Nursery Cryme in its entirety and "Firth of Fifth" are some of my favs. The era for me was 1976 to 1980. From "Trick" to "Duke". But as I had only 10 slots, Trick was my pick without any kick from a chick or light from my Bic or advice from Dick that arrogant prick(ok Jim, we've seen you had the hots for your English teacher, Karen in the 70's) Shut up! Oh my, wish I had an 11th slot for Van Halen. "Hot for Teacher" was a good one! In fact their 1st album is a must have for anyone over 6.

My fav. Genesis era

Perhaps I should start a new thread entitled "British comedians take the piss out of pop groups"... Anyway, wrt Genesis, there's a classic line by Rik Mayall in The Young Ones, where he gets into a sulk and says "Well, this is boring! We might just as well be listening to Genesis".

Another time, Rik says: "No one listens to me. I might just as well be a Leonard Cohen album!"

1) The Wall - Pink Floyd.
2) Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd.
3) Brave - Marillion.
4) Amarok - Mike Oldfield.
5) Hounds of Love - Kate Bush.
6) Signify - Porcupine Tree.
7) Felt Mountain - Goldfrapp.
8) Equinoxe - Jean Michel Jarre.
9) The War of the Worlds - Jeff Wayne.
10) Vespertine - Bjork.

PS: Could I have Pink Floyd's "Oh By The Way" box set as one choice?

Wot - no Coldplay among all these choices? I'd have thought their X and Y good for a mench or two.... VlV is good too, especially "Reign of Love", with its beautiful, Janacek-ish feel.

8) Equinoxe - Jean Michel Jarre.

Hi Smillsoid,

I also cherish Equinoxe from Jarre, but ran out of room... especially parts 2 & 3...
