Quote (bugular tell @ Mar. 08 2007, 15:41) | I'm looking forward to hearing some classic(al) Mike, alot of the recent stuff, although good, is not what mike's about, trying to twist your musical nature to suit other genre's is often a bad idea, and through all the thumping beats and electronic wizadry, Mike's inner musical beast was trying come out, this project sounds like an outlet for alot of pent up Oldfield back to the roots music.......
well thats 3 things so its gotta be sunshine and rainbows from now on! lol

Sorry to hear about your dog and your grandfather Lee, also your argument with black ice in which your car and wrist became casualties, hope they can be repaired soon.
Agreed I quite like L&S but I have to be in a dancy sort of mood to really, really get into certain traks on there. Yes I'm sure Mike's inner "musical beast" was trying to come out, amongst those thumping beats and electronic wizardry. Generally I find dance music on the whole doesn't do much for me , maybe it's old age setting in . Yay Mike doing an album that goes back to his roots. I wonder if he now thinks making Tubular Bells 2003 was a superflous project . I don't dislike TB2003,but hate John Cleese's, Master of Ceremonies, he sounds bored, I just can't get enthusiastic about TB2003 compared to the original. If TB2003 hadn't have been made I wouldn't miss it.
Quote | ian Posted on Mar. 08 2007, 19:25I would personaly like to hear more of the Amarok sound, something I think he never returned to. He really had something here. It had developed from Ommadawn and the like into excellent small pieces. I admit, some bits were a bit intrusive like the loud noises at inappropriate times but it was/is still genius.
I find myself listening more to classical music more and more these days. I wouldn't like to hear Mike plays acoustic over classical like Orchesteral Tubular bells (and only a small bit at that). I want to hear his distinctive sound mixed in. I await with interest but I'm still not won over by the Halloween idea. Its a bit naff. It's like having a musical based on bonfire night or April fool's day. It's too seasonal. I don't care for the concept of Halloween anyway but thats my personal belief.

I'd think I'd be put off if Mike were to make another Amarok sounding album. I've been wanting to like Amarok , but just can't quite seem to get into it despite my efforts . I like the idea of Mike using classical music in his recordings, as long as it's got some electric guitar in. With Orchestral Tubular Bells I felt the guitar was rather lacking.
About the Halloween idea, I think this could be quite good, like most festivals these days things seem to get too commercialised and so rather crass. Maybe the albums planned for a late October release. Maybe what Mike could do is take the eight Pagan festivals in the year Yule/Winter Solstice, Imbolc (Candlemas), Ostara/Spring Equinox(Easter), Beltane(May Day), Summer Solstice, Lammas, Mabon/Autumn Eqinox to stop it sounding too seasonal. That said I don't restrict playing In Dulci Jubilo to Christmas/Yule. Or maybe doing a piece on the festivals would then make it a concept album??? maybe, or not.
